One More From 2009: NEON GREEN!

Alrighty, one more post here from Festival Kinetik 2009! This was supposed to be a scheduled post on Friday but Blogger wasn't really cooperating with me. Thanks to Kitten Mittens who let me know about Draft Blogger; now that I'm using it I can comment again! Also, it has some new editor updates like "improved image INSERTION and POSITIONING" ***snicker*** Who doesn't love great insertion and positioning?  Anyway, I've been away from the old computer for a couple of days for a deadly exam of death and now I'm going to ramble on about goth industrial stuff.....

Here is my outfit for "Phase 4" of Festival Kinetik 2009. This was my favourite night as it was the EBM night! EBM, or electro-body music, is my favourite sub-genre of industrial music as it is highly danceable. I have no idea why it's called "electro body music", to be quite honest that sounds kind of......weird. ANYWAY, I was super excited because I got to see Astyplaz, Necessary Response, FGFC820, Pride and Fall, Assemblage 23, Das Ich, Icon of Coil, and XP8 live! I was just DYING to see XP8, they are from Italy and they were just fantastic live. I am in love with Assemblage 23, but for some reason, it is the ONLY band from the ENTIRE festival that I cannot for the life of me remember seeing! I know most of their songs, so this really makes no sense......I think I must have been overwhelmed by all the industrial goodness! I even have pictures of them and everything! Odd. The part of the evening that I was MOST excited about was Icon of Coil. I'm not sure if there are any industrial fans out there, but if there were, you would probably love Icon of Coil. They are my freakin' favourite! They are not really a band anymore (since approx. 2004 I believe) as the lead singer is now frontlining Combichrist and Panzer AG. They came back together to play for Festival Kinetik and I was SUPER excited; however, it was rather disappointing. The lead singer was DRUNK and I am pretty sure I knew more of the words than he did! I think a lot of people were crabby about this as there were MANY Icon of Coil fans there.

On to the makeup........

1. MAC Spring Bean Tinted Lipglass: I used this over top of an eye pencil on my lips. Results were not great, but I did not have anything better in the way of green lip products at the time.

2. Medusa's Makeup Glitter in Neon Green: I mixed this with eyeliner seal and painted some lines coming out from the eyeliner on my lower lashline.....looked kinda silly but glowed under UV lights.

3. Kryolan Aqua Colours in UV Green and UV Yellow: These colours were mixed together to create my lid colour.

4. Elise False Eyelashes: They had green in them! Sweet!

5. Rimmel Eyeful Eye Glistener in Stand Out: This was used as a lip colour and it failed miserably. You win some, you lose some.

6. My Old Faithful Maybelline Black Eyeliner was used, of course.

Under the UV lights!

This dress actually has black print on it. The print reacts
with camera flash and looks bright silver in photos.
The print on the stockings is silver and also reacts
with flash. NEAT!
Dress: DANE UK. I ordered this off of the internet and was FREAKING OUT because they carry clothes in "one size fits all", which we all know is NOT true. I was quite concerned that it would not fit me. I am about a size 9 (I suppose dress sizes are different in different countries so for reference, that's about a size large in general) so I was a little bit concerned being that I am not a petite lady. Thankfully, it is rather stretchy and I have seen people of a wide range of sizes wearing them.

Stockings: Also DANE UK. They are also a "one size" item, and they are a bit snug, I must say.

Cyberlox: I ordered these as a custom pair from I Kick Shins. They are actually not hard to make, but I believe the price difference between ordering your own supplies and having them made was not that much so I decided to get a pair made in this case.

Here's some more green stuff that I'd love to goth around with......

From left to right:
MAC Mineralize Blush in Miss Behave: I'll be using this frequently for goth looks as you can get a really neat green sheen by using the little heart in the middle!

Hot Topic crappy-but-UV reactive nail polish in cute little bottles.

Medusa's Makeup Mascara in Envy: I love coloured mascara, I'm thinking I might try using this to colour my eyebrows!

1. Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadow in Midori: An awesome green colour!

2. Lise Watier Glitter Eyeliner in Golden Green.

3. Annabelle Eyeliner in Lotus

4. GOSH Let's Twist Eyeliner in Kamikaze: I think I actually used this for the above look but forgot to put it in the pic.

5. Morgana Cryptoria Lipstick in Enchanted Emerald: This is a fantastic colour to add to my green lip product collection!

6. Morgana Cryptoria Lipstick in Brilliant Lime: Oh how I wish I had this back in 2009!

7. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Botanical: My mother saw me testing this out one day (I was in town visiting my parents) and she thought I'd gone nuts (more nuts than she usually thinks I've gone after seeing my makeup, that is).

8. Medusa's Makeup Glitter in Wicca: It's got a cool name and it makes a sweet glitter eyeliner and would look pretty neat applied to the lips......

9. Miscellaneous Unlabeled UV-reactive-not-sure-if-it's-eye-safe green glitter: I dust this upon myself for a sparkly effect.

10, 11. GOSH Extreme Art Eyeliners in 05 and 06: I've done some neat stuff with these! They are really, really hard to remove once you've got them on.

12. Stargazer Florescent Pressed Powder in Florescent Forest: It's UV reactive!

13. MAC Eyeshadow in Bitter: One of my few MAC eyeshadows because I mostly hate them. This one I use for a "transitional" blending effect, or something.

14. Sugarpill Chromalust in Tipsy: I can't wait to use this one with this outfit!

15. UD 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Grafitti: I love this eyeliner, it's green with little silver sparklies!

16. MAC She Who Dares Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo (The green side): I DO like MAC's mineralize eyeshadows. This shadow is a dark blackish green with green sparkles, it's one of my favourites!

17. Morgana Cryptoria Lipstick in Gilded Lime: I bought this to specifically go with this outfit!

18. Morgana Cryptoria Lipstick in Absinthe: Will definitely be using this in a goth look in one way or another!

Totally unrelated to this post: I must share a piece of wisdom from EvilAngel via my comments for all the larger chested ladies out there: "Let the boobs fall where they may." Amen, sister.

Also totally unrelated to this post: I must share with you the comment of the month, courtesy of Kitten Mittens: "*side note: my word verification was "scrotora" sounds like a sack disease or a place where broken testicles go to heaven." LOL I had a good laugh over that one.

Who else loves neon and glow in the dark stuff? Check out Robyn from Stay Beautiful's UV photoshoot! Also, I am totally in love with this bright look by Nukleopatra!

Black and Silver Geisha Goth

~So yeah, I STILL can't comment on anybody's blog that uses a Blogger comment system. This has been going on since Monday. This is very irritating. Also, it seems that not everyone is affected by this, as my blog has a Blogger comment system and I'm still getting comments. I wonder if they will fix this ever, it says on their "help" page that they've known about it since Tuesday, figure it out already!~

"Phase 3" of Festival Kinetik 2009 was dedicated to noise. I've never been a huge noise fan, so the evening was very interesting as I got to listen to some fresh, new music that I don't usually indulge in such as Adversary, Cervello Elettronico, Mimetic, Architect, Iszoloscope, Synapscape, Imminent, Noisex, Winterkalte, andCaustic. I don't know why, but thinking of noise music made me think of black and silver so that was the theme I went with that night.

1. Medusa's Makeup Body Shimmer in Ghostly: used for dusting over the chest and shoulders.

2. Nars Night Breed: I use this all the time for my goth looks as it is a sparkly black eyeshadow.

3. Old Faithful was used as eyeliner.

4. My eyeshadow look was created using the Jane Cosmetics Quad in Chicago. I also used some of the silver eyeshadows for some contour lines on my face.

5. Lise Watier Precious Eyeliner in Silver and Black: The silver eyeliner was used.

6. L'oreal HIP pigment stick in Dazzling: I have no idea where I got this and I've never seen it in stores after I got it. I wasn't even sure what to do with this when I found it in my makeup kit and was like, "Where the hell did this come from?" I screwed around with it a bit, and now it is a regular participant in my goth makeup. I break off a chunk of it, mix it with water, and use it as a lipcolour.

7. Elise fake eyelashes: I have a bunch of these, and I think I got them in Vancouver. I've never seen this brand anywhere else but I think they were cheap, which is why I bought a bunch. The pair I was wearing for this look are dramatic lashes with little feathers on the ends.

8. Ardell Demi Lashes in 102 Black: These are SO OLD. I have had these for a million years. I used them on my bottom lashes.

9. MAC Lipmix in Black: This is the best black lip product I've ever tried. It paints on wet, you can blend it, and then it dries down to a lovely finish and it DOES NOT MOVE. You can have some beverages and dance around and do whatever, you will have perfect black lips all night long. I used it in the middle of my lips here.

Uh, please excuse the excessive boob in the above pictures. A lot of goth clothing companies don't really make their clothes to accommodate ladies who are larger in the chest area.

Dress: Plastik Wrap (They're Canadian!)

Boots: Demonia

Hair Chopsticks: I made these as my dress had little silver dragons all over it and I was going for a slightly geisha-inspired theme. I'm wearing them in the first picture.

Sleeves: By me.

Dreadfalls: I made them. Since somebody asked about hair stuff in a comment earlier and I am unable to comment on other blogs or reply to comments right now (THANKS BLOGGER!) I'll just post it here I guess. I get all of my Cyberlox and hair for dread making from I Kick Shins. Their customer service is excellent and you can get any supplies for fake hair that you need. There is a HUGE selection of materials (different dread hair materials, flat crin, cyberlox, rexlace, clip in extensions, everything)! Also, if you don't know how to make your own, you can order custom dreadfalls, Cyberlox falls, and pretty much anything else you should need. Another website from which you can get supplies, but not custom falls, is Doctored Locks. I personally prefer I Kick Shins.

Hopefully Blogger is fixed soon. Is anyone else having this problem?

Biohazard Outfit and Orange Stuff

***I still can't comment on most people's blogs. When I press "comment", it logs me out. This has been occuring since Tuesday. I would really like to comment on some blogs up in here, I am bursting with comments!!!! Perhaps Blogger could fix this at some point??? GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO team Blogger!! ***

"Phase 2" of Festival Kinetik 2009 was the harsh industrial night. I got to see DYM, Life Cried, Aesthetic Perfection, Soman, God Module, Reaper, Amduscia, Grendel, and Accessory. Seeing Grendel live was awesome! I did not at all expect that they would be good live, as most of their songs have very distorted vocals and samples in them. However, the guy just gets up there and belts out all of the songs with no distortion and it sounded fantastic! The crowd was very high energy for their set and it was so much fun! The band was pretty cool, they just hung out with everyone at the festival for the whole night after their set. Another standout was Amduscia, they were awesome! (Unfortunately, one of the band members passed away last year but it seems that Amduscia is still making music.) They are from Mexico, which I thought was neat. That was one of the awesome things about Festival Kinetik, you got to see industrial bands from around the world! Here's an outfit that I wear ALL THE TIME to goth stuff; it also shows a makeup look that is simple but I use it when short on time or when I can't think of anything else.

1. Rimmel Kiss Off Lip Gloss in.....it appears to not have a name. I used this over Morange to give it some sparkle.

2. Ollllllld faiiiithful was used as eyeliner. I extended my eyeliner "wings" under my browbone and made little dots under the wing.

3. UV reactive orange glitter must be dusted upon the cleavage! Who doesn't love glowing cleavage?

4. Lit orange glitter was mixed with an eyeliner seal and used on the lower lashline. I don't really think you can see it in the pictures.

5 & 6. Kryolan UV Aquacolours in UV Orange and Yellow were blended together to get a bit of a "gradient" effect from the inner lid to the outer V.

7. MAC Morange lipstick was applied to the lips.

8. I have had these Halloween lashes for a million years and I use them all the time.

9. GLOW STICK BRACELETS, because my outfit wasn't UV reactive, except for the orange fishnets and the orange dreads. This just wouldn't do.

I often do this makeup look with one colour or another as
it is simple but it works.
What the hell is with this pose? Have another drink....

I must say, I really do love orange, especially for gothing around. Here are some of my orange "goth tools"!

1. Hot Topic UV reactive nail polish: Terrible nail polish, but it's UV reactive! I have problems.

2. Stargazer Florescent Pressed Powder in Florescent Orange: Terrible eyeshadow, but it's UV reactive! See above.

3. Manic Panic Eyeshadow in Vampire Red: I use this to deepen and blend my orange eyeshadows.

4. Hard Candy Visibly Wet Lip Pencil in Inferno: This would look SO awesome with a gothy orange look, too bad it's like an inferno on my lips! I may have to try to suffer for fashion as the colour is to die for!

5. Morgana Cryptoria vegan lipstick in Tangerine Twist: Love this colour!

6. Evil Shades Blush in Atomic: It's orange....with a blue duochrome!

7. Stargazer Florescent Pressed Powder in Florescent Rouge: It's not rouge, it's orange. See 2 above for details.

8. MAC Orange eyeshadow: The most originally named MAC eyeshadow, by far.

9. Manic Panic eyeshadow in Electric Lava: SPARKLY! ORANGE! GLOWS UNDER BLACKLIGHT!

10. Evil Shades Blush in Ravishing: It's a great orange-y blush if you want to be a bit more subtle in the cheeks department.

11. Medusa's Makeup eyeshadow in Electro Orange: Goes on well when applied wet or dry, and is UV reactive!

12.  Evil Shades Blush in Love Bites: For the most subtle peachy orange glow.

13. Kat Von D Lightening Sheer Lipgloss in Party Animal: Smells great and looks great over black or orange lipstick!

14. Medusa's Makeup eyeshadow in Electro Red: It is not red, it is orange. See 11 above.

15. Lise Watier loose eyeshadow in Folie D'Orange: I've used this as a blush or highlighter from time to time.

16. Evil Shades eyeshadow in CC41: It is SO bright, I love this shadow! It also is UV reactive. Yes, I do sit around in my spare time looking at every makeup item I own under a blacklight.

17. The Sugarpill Burning Heart Quad: SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!

18. Silk Naturals eyeshadow in Safety: I placed an order with Silk Naturals awhile ago, review coming soon!

19. MAC Pigment in Neo Orange: I have a love/hate relationship with this. I love the colour, but I hate that matte eyeshadows always mock me......I just can't get this one to blend properly! ARGH! I need to work on my skillz.....

20. Hot Topic UV Reactive horrible nailpolish of death.

21. OPI Atomic Orange nail polish.

Chasing bunnies!
I'd just like to say thank you to all of the lovely ladies who've been leaving such nice comments here lately! Also, thanks to my fellow Canadian KittenMittens from Painted for giving me a shout-out on her blog! Go check out her lovely blending skills and a delicious sounding recipe for Chick Pea Salad! YUM!

Gothy Lipcolours and Blush!

I thought I would share some of my favourite gothy lip colours and blushes! The lipcolour picture uploaded really weird, it looks really tiny and blurry. Click to enlarge if you want.

1. Make Up Forever Lab Shine Lipgloss in M0 (Chrome Onyx) from the Metal Collection: This stuff rules! Review coming soon!

2. YSL Gloss Pur in Black: All high end goths need this! I'm a white trash goth, so I'm not sure why I have it! LOL!

3. NARS Lip Stain Gloss in Daredevil:  Is it a gloss, or is it a stain? Even NARS can't decide. This is a lovely dark wine colour that is very long wearing.

4. Lancome Colour Fever Gloss in Piha Black: This gloss is a really neat sparkly grey on it's own and it looks really awesome over lipstick!

5. Lancome Colour Fever Gloss in Intense: This gloss looks awesome both by itself and over lipstick. The texture of these Lancome glosses is SO nice!

6. Manic Panic Lipstick in Raven: It's black, it's lipstick, so therefore it's goth. It needs to be a bit heavily applied to get it opaque, but it works. It dries down well so I use it under gloss.

7. Morgana Cryptoria vegan lipstick in Otherworldly- It'sdark, it's purple, it's got a blue shift, how much more goth can you get?

8. Evil Shades Hardcore Lips in Roue: I can't wait to wear this one with a classic goth outfit. It's a beautiful, super shiny, blackened red.

9. Evil Shades Hardcore Lips in Astrea's Embrace: I LOVE THIS COLOUR! It's a sparkly dark purple which is not only fabulous on it's own, but is fantastic over lipstick!

10. Evil Shades Deviant Lipstick in Obscurity: Navy blue lips are a fantastic idea for when you get sick of black!

11.Evil Shades Devian Lipstick in Fateful: It's black with purple sparklies. Enough said.

12. Fyrinnae Lip Lustre in Candy Decadence: I CAN'T WAIT TO CRACK THIS OUT AT THE CLUB!

13. Fyrinnae Lip Lustre in Ghostly Voice: I can't even describe this colour, or Candy Decadence. These are some really unique lip products, I am totally in love with them both!

14. Kat von D Painted Love Lipstick in Hellbent: I wear this all the time; it's a fantastic blackened red.

15. MAC Media lipstick: This was my first MAC lipstick! It's a classic!

16. MAC Hipster lipstick: It's a dark reddish-berry type colour and I love it because it has a metallic finish!

17. MAC Faultlessly F/W: It's an almost black, blue-toned, super dark purple. I just about fell over myself to get to the MAC counter when this came out!

18. MAC Cyber: I love the name of this one. It's similar in colour to Faultlessly F/W but it is more red-toned and a bit lighter.

19. MAC Kissble Lip Colour in Love Peck: I love the formulation of this colour, it wears well without being drying.

20. MAC Mattene Lipstick in Night Violet: This one's an old favourite as it manages to be both dark and bright at the same time!

If you've been looking at my blog for awhile, you've likely noticed that I rather enjoy Evil Shades blush. I used to often skip the blush when I would get all gothed up, but then I found these lovelies. Vixen, Pin Up, and Skon work fabulously with gothy looks as they are dark and make an awesome contrast against lighter skin tones.  Unfortunately, Vixen and Pin Up are no longer available, so I must ration these! Skon is my favourite anyway, I've never seen such a unique blush!

Sorry if I haven't been commenting on certain people's blogs......Blogger is having some issue with people getting logged out when trying to comment, but apparently not everyone is affected by this. This is rather irritating to me, as there are many posts I would love to comment on. Hopefully this will be fixed soon!

Pink and Black Goth Look: DIY

Does anyone happen to know WTF is wrong with Blogger now? There's always something. I've been trying to comment on various blogs this afternoon and whenever I pressed the comment button, it signed me out of Blogger. ARGHHHHHHHH! Moving on.......

Here is the outfit that I wore to "Phase 1" of Festival Kinetik 2009, which was the opening night. I had the pleasure of seeing the following industrial bands live: Corrupted suburbs, Ayria, Memmaker, Terrorfakt, Project Pitchfork, Interlace, and Marching Dynamics. My personal favourites were Ayria, who is Canadian and put on an excellent live show. I have also seen her in concert where I live, which was sweet because there isn't much of a scene for that kind of music here. The best part of the night for me was Memmaker. They are Canadian as well. I had never heard of them before that night, but they all came out in lab coats and blew me away with some of the most danceably delicious music ever! It was awesome! For this festival night, I went with a pink and black theme, inspired by Ayria. My makeup was super simple, I'm not sure what the hell I was on that day, usually I go pretty all out, espeically when pink and black is involved.

1. UV reactive pink glitter was dusted over the shoulders and decolletage.

2. Lots of my old faithful eyeliner was applied.

3. MAC Dazzleglass in Pleasure Principle was used over top of MAC Paint in Cotton Candy on the lips.

4. Ardell "Sophisticated" false eyelashes were used on the lower lashline.

5. Make Up Forever False Eyelashes in 121 Gina were used on the upper lashline. These have the HUGEST band and I ALWAYS f*** them up.

6. MAC Pink Opal Pigment was used on the inner lid and over top of my blush as a bit of a highlighter or something.

7. MAC Fuschia Pigment was the main lid colour. There was also some kind of black eyeshadow here, what it was, I cannot remember.

8. Annabelle Blossom Blush in Sakura was used on the cheeks. WORST. BLUSH. EVER!

9. MAC Paint in Cotton Candy was used on the lips and as a base under the pink and white eyeshadows. Whatever happened to MAC Paint? I loved that stuff, you could use it on eyes, lips, and cheeks.

This is the only picture that you can even remotely see my makeup in. I didn't do a very good job! Anyway, that's my fiance in the picture with me. I have my "special occasion spike" on in my labret piercing, fun! I am also wearing purple contacts (prescripton ones from the eye doctor). They don't work well with brown eyes. I've always wanted to experiment more with weird contacts but I'm always wary of prescription novelty contacts.

There is some serious DIY going on with my outfit...... (there is also underwear on the floor in the first picture, classy!)

Corset and pink pencil skirt: Made specially for me by my best friend, Tash. You may have seen her on some of my "hot mess" posts. She is a genius when it comes to sewing PVC! It is hard to sew, but she is fabulous at it. She also gave me the black PVC skirt, she had the seamstress who made our grad dresses a thousand years ago make it for me.

Garter belt: Also made by Tash. It looks kind of like a cage, it can be worn over or under skirts to hold your stockings up or just for decoration. I'm wearing it under the black shirt but over the pink one, you can see the little D-rings coming out..........speaking of my dear friend, she bought a bunch of stuff from the MAC Wonder Woman collection a while ago. Since I did not indulge in this collection, I asked her to make me a guest blog post and she did! Keep an eye out for that one next week!

PVC sleeves: Made by me. That's why they suck. I can't sew to save my life, and I ESPECIALLY can't sew PVC to save my life.

Collar: I have no idea where I got this, I have a trillion collars.

Dreadfalls: These were made by me. They have solid black dreads as a "base" with pink and blonde solid dreads over top with a few blonde/black and pink/black twists. They are a little bit "crispy" as the technique I used to make these was not quite right.

Boots: Demonia.

Since looking at these pictures, I have been conjuring up ideas for the next time I do a pink goth look. I think I can do better than that! thought I would share some of the products that I have used in the past to make pink goth looks and some that I can't wait to try out in the future!

1. MAC Glimmerglass in Blackfire: This gloss looks fantastic over pink lipsticks and darkens them up a bit!

2. Manic Panic eyeshadow in Mod-A-Go-Go, whatever that means: It's neon, it's sparkly, it's UV reactive, and it STAINS MY EYES ARGH! It does look good on, though. It can be applied dry or wet, which I find is helpful.

3. Evil Shades eyeshadow in Lucia: This is a great colour, I can't wait to try blending this one with some black, sparkly eyeshadows!

4. Evil Shades Blush in Backtalk: This blush is too dark for me for day wear, but I think it will be very useful to me in the near future for goth clubbing!

5. Make up Store Glitter in Pink Light: I enjoy using this glitter for dusting oneself, and for mixing with eyeliner seal to get a fabulous, sparkly, UV reactive pink eyeliner. ***SAFETY ALERT: in huge letters on the bottom of the pot, it says NOT FOR USE AROUND EYES.***

6. Glamour Doll Eyes Glamour Gloss in Fashionista: It's UV reactive. That's why I got it. I have a review of some GDE stuff coming soon.

7. Sugarpill Chromalust in Magnetric: This is an awesome colour. Enough Said.

8. Evil Shades Hardcore Lips in Not Your Barbie: Love this colour! It's super bright and looks awesome on it's own, but I would like to experiment with wearing it over/mixing it with black lipstick somehow.....

9. Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadow in Dollipop: Who doesn't love this colour? I'll for sure crack this out next time I'm going pinky goth!

10. Hot Topic neon pink nail polish: It's the worst nail polish you'll ever try, but it was $1 and it's UV reactive.

11. Candy Yum Yum: This is not UV reactive, but it almost "glows" in the daytime! This would be a fantastic lipstick for a neon pink cyber goth type of look!

12.OPI That's Berry Daring - Um, this isn't really gothy, nor do I use it for goth pursuits, nor will I use it. I think I just got a bit weird and started grabbing pink stuff out of my traincase!

13. Persephone Minerals Pinkaholic Anonymous: This shade is really bright and shiny, I've been wanting to try it over top of a darker pink to add some texture. I think it might look neat over a black base as well!

14. Stargazer Florescent Pressed Powder in Rose Pink: Oh Stargazer eyeshadows, you are so chalky but you glow under blacklight so I still use you even though I kinda don't like you.

15. MAC Glitter in Reflects Very Pink - It makes a great eyeliner when mixed with an eyeliner seal. It also looks great over top of black eyeshadow.

16. MAC Pigment in Brash and Bold: It's brash, it's bold, and it looks great with black eyeliner.

17. Lise Watier loose eyeshadow in Folie D'Amour: I use this as a dramatic highlighter or over blush. I wouldn't do this for every day wear, but when you're going for something a bit more "out there", using it as a highlighter can work.

18. Persephone Minerals Pink Sugar Heart Attack: Um, just grabbin' pink stuff again. It's bright, but not as bright as I'd like for a goth look.

If this post sounds a bit cracked out, it's because I slept for 2 hours last night, wrote a huge exam, and ate nothing but coffee and some old croutons that I found for lunch. That's how my day is going up in here!

Also, thanks everyone for the great nail polish recommendations!   :)

Gothy Polishes!

I never really do any nail polish posts on this blog because my nails really suck and no one would want to see them. I used to be a huge nail biter (gross, I know) and then I got over it but when I study I often catch myself doing it unconsiously so my nails have looked terrible throughout school. I'm always super jealous of the fabulous nails I see on polish blogs! I do like to paint my nails for going goth clubbing, even if they are short and crappy looking. Here are some of my favourite darker polishes to go along with my goth outfits!

1. OPI Alpine Snow: It's not dark, obviously, but it's a great colour for adding accents to your dark nails!

2. Sally Hansen Chrome Nail Polish in Canary Diamond Chrome: It goes on metallic! Also a great accent colour.

3. Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel in Black Star: This one's black with sublte silver sparkles. I bought it because my OPI Black Onyx (plain black) ran out and I didn't feel like spending $11 for a nail polish so I kind of just grabbed this one. However, this nail polish sucks. It chips really easily, even with a topcoat. I will soon be going out to spend $11......

4. MAC Baby Goth Girl: This is a super neat black colour with a kind of purpley-gold shine and large glitter flakes! If you're getting sick of black, this colour is a nice change!

5. Gosh Nail Lacquer in Gasoline: This looks awesome when worn as a topcoat over black!

6. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Colour in Wined Up: This polish goes on a lot darker than it looks in the picture; it's a lovely blackened, metallic red. The Insta-Dri nail polishes have quite a decent formula for an inexpensive nail polish, I quite enjoy them.

7. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Colour in Night Flight: This one is a really dark blue that looks almost black. Another nice alternative if you're getting a bit sick of black. Also, it dries way quicker than OPI so when I'm in a hurry, I often use this one instead of my OPI Black Onyx.

8. OPI Russian Navy: This is a really great colour, it's a dark navy blue with some purple shine to it.

9. OPI Ink: I use this one as a topcoat for wearing over black nails; it has purple and blue sparkles in it.

10. OPI Lincoln Park After Dark: This one's a dark, red-toned purple. This is a nice colour to wear when you want dark nails but black may not be appropriate. A dark purple can seem a bit more sophisticated.

11. OPI Bogota Blackberry: This is another blackened, metallic red but it's a bit lighter than Sally Hansen Wined Up.

12. La Femme Beauty Nail Varnish in Ultra Violet: My UV reactive topcoat. You can put it over any colour and it will glow under black light. The only bad thing about it is that it's not 100% clear like a regular topcoat, it has a bit of a purple tinge to it so it can throw off your nail polish colour a bit.

So anyway, I am hugely makeup obsessed but not particularly nail obsessed so I don't know too much about nail polish brands. Does anyone have any recommendations for nail polish brands that wear as well as OPI but don't cost as much? Any awesome colour recommendations?

UV-Reactive Orange, Black Eyeliners, and Some Goth Club Essentials

Well isn't this just super appropriate: it has come to my attention that today (May 22) is WORLD GOTH DAY! It's a weird coincidence, as I have just begun my week of all goth posts! I was inspired to do my little goth week because I am missing Festival Kinetik right now; I am rather pleased that today is World Goth Day! I have no idea who came up with the idea for World Goth Day, nor what it celebrations it entails, but I am pleased nonetheless.

ANYWAY, today I am going to share with you my makeup and outfit that I wore to the pre-festival club night for Kinetik 2009. They have a goth club night before the festival starts so you can dance around to industrial music and meet people from around the world who came to Montreal for the festival. I met people from all over Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and the U.K. It was super fun! I did a pretty basic makeup look as I had just gotten off the plane that day and was tired.

1. Maybelline Black Liquid Eyeliner was used quite copiously. What else is new?

2 & 3. I mixed Kryolan UV Reactive Aquacolours in UV Yellow and UV Orange to get a great eyelid colour that matched my outfit. These look just awesome under UV lights! This Kryolan palette is one of my goth go-to products because I love to glow under UV lights and the palette is very convenient, it even has little wells for mixing the colours together! I ordered this palette from the ebay store of the owner of Sugarpill Cosmetics years ago.

4. My lipstick colour was Lime Crime My Beautiful Rocket.***

5. I used a Kabuki brush to dust UV reactive orange glitter over my shoulders and decolletage.

Dreadfalls: DropDeadDreads. I do not think they are in business anymore as far as I know. These dreads glow under UV light, OF COURSE!

Bustier: La Vie En Rose.

Corset, Collar, Sleeves, and Skirt: Artifice Clothing. Oh how I love their clothing but not their customer service. I wish I could order more stuff from them, but my experience with their company in the past (2008) was quite poor. Perhaps things have changed since then, I really wouldn't know. This whole outfit is a wonderful thing for cyber-gothish types of looks because it is made out of PVC that.....you guessed it....glows under UV lights! I was lighting up the place in this outfit!

Boots: Demonia.

I also thought that today I would share with you some of my goth clubbing essentials as well as some of my favourite black eyeliners!

1. Duo Lash Adhesive in dark tone: The dark tone lash adhesive is a MUST if you are going to wear false eyelashes with a ton of black makeup! It's a great idea to throw it in your purse with a little applicator in case dancing to industrial music happens to dislodge one of your falsies! (It happens!)

2. Manic Panic Goth White makeup: I like to have some of this around to slightly lighten up my foundation. It's small and easy to carry around for touch ups.

3. Hair clips/bobby pins: These should be carried around lest vigorous dancing dislodge one's dreadfalls, cyberlox, or other hair inserts. When these become dislodged due to poor installation technique, it can be very embarrassing!

4. A fragrance pen or other portable means of scent-touch up is always nice to have when you're out clubbing.

5. A cute cigarrette case: These are a great way to carry your I.D. and money when you have a small purse.

6. A retractable lip brush: This is essential for lip-touch ups if you shall be having a few beverages. I really like my MAC one.

7. Concealer: A good concealer is always good to have in one's purse for late-night touch ups. I enjoy Cover FX Camouflage Concealer.

8. A mini-black eyeliner: Another essential for touch-ups.

9. A UV reactive nail topcoat: I wouldn't carry this in my purse, but it's something I consider essential for my goth club looks.

10. Primer: I like MAC Prep and Prime. Primer is essential for keeping one's makeup intact while dancing for extended periods of time.

11, 12. Eye Primer: When I goth around, I often wear a lot of eye makeup. I also dance lots, which may lead to sweating lots. When wearing this much makeup, it is ESSENTIAL that it DOES NOT MOVE under any circumstances. I find that UDPP with MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre almost NEVER lets me down!

13. Oil blotting sheets: These are great to have in your purse for clubbing so that you can touch up your makeup. I have no preference, I buy cheap ones.

1. Barbie Loves Stila Smudgepot in Little Black Dress: It's black with pink and purple sparkles!

2. Avon Daring Definition Gel Eyeliner: I don't really like Avon and I don't really like gel eyeliners but for some reason I love this product!

3. An Old Faithful - Maybelline Black Liquid Eyeliner: It's black, it's cheap, and I've been using it since I was 15. If they discontinue this one, I'm f**ked.

4. Lise Watier Glitter Eyeliner in Black Diamond: Black eyeliner with black and silver sparkles.....OH YES!

5. UD 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Perversion (matte black).

6. UD 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Zero: It's a classic!

7. Geisha Ink black liquid eyeliner pen: I use this for making fine lines.

8. Maybelline Line Stiletto : This one dries to a shiny finish, which I think is super neat!

9. UD 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Oil Slick: I often use this black liner with sliver sparkles for smudging along my lower lashline.

10. Lise Watier Precious Eyeliner: This one has more of a brush tip than a felt tip so it gives a different effect when applied.

11. Medusa's Makeup eyeliner in Black Panther: I like to use this one for creating a smudged effect.

Happy World Goth Day! What are your favourite black eyeliners?

***LIME CRIME DISCLAIMER: I have a few Lime Crime products that I bought shortly after their online store launched (i.e. a couple years ago). At this time, I am aware that there have been some "issues" with this company. Since I spent money on the products and I like them, I have decided to continue using them. However, I DO NOT purchase Lime Crime makeup anymore and will not support their business in the future as I am uncomfortable with the actions of the owner. Please do your own research and make your own decisions when choosing makeup companies. ***

I Think I Hear a Closet Door Opening...........

Now that my time as a University student has come to an end, save for my licensing and law exams in the next couple of weeks, I've been thinking a lot about how much I have had to change things in order to get to this point. Specifically, I am referring to my appearance. I really miss having colourful hair and being able to dress in the gothy/punky style that I used to. I do like to dress up and wear nice clothes and I do try to keep some punk or goth style elements in my outfits in very sublte ways, but it's just not the same. Don't get me wrong, I'm a grown adult and have gotten over the fact that sometimes dressing in certain ways works against you and can even be inappropriate but I just miss being able to do whatever the f*ck I want, you know? It kind of sucks being a closeted goth as I don't have many occasions to come out of my closet as there is no goth scene where I currently reside so I only get to really goth it up now on trips to other cities. I guess that's part of getting old and having a job mostly that mostly employs very conservative persons.

Another thing I am crabby about at the moment is how I often have to miss out on stuff that I like doing due to spending all of my money and time on school. For instance, right now I am broke from paying for school until my job starts in July (they don't let you work in a student/intern position anymore after school is over) and my licensing exams are next week so I am missing (for the third time) my beloved Festival Kinetik. For those of you who don't know, Festival Kinetik is a huge goth/industrial/EBM/noise festival that takes place at this time each year in the fantastic city of Montreal, Quebec. I was actually able to go in 2009 and it was my favourite trip ever! There are usually 4 to 5 days ,or "phases" as they call them, for different types of music.

Anyway, enough of the crabbiness, as there are excellent things ahead! In 2 more weeks, NO MORE EXAMS AND STUDYING! In one more month, I will be moving to a new city....a city with a goth scene! In one more year, there will be another Festival Kinetik and I shall hopefully be able to get time off work and have the funds to go!

Because I am sitting here being completely distracted by visions of industrial music dancing in my head rather than studying, I thought I would put together a few posts with my old pictures from festival in 2009 and share some of the makeup that I used for the pictures. I will also be sharing some of my favourite "go-to" makeup products for creating goth looks. Finally, I shall be sharing some goth makeup pictures from a SUPER SWEET concert I attended last week!

Unflattering picture of the day!
