NSFW: Neutral Eyes with Red Lips

ARGGGGGGGGH! That was a "special" week! Last Friday, the moving truck came to take all my crap to a new province and a new townhouse that is WAY bigger than my horrid little apartment and a new job! I have been living in Saskatoon for the last 8 years going to school and I hated it there and I hated University! I was, however, sad to leave a really good friend that I had made there :(  I went to my hometown of Regina to visit family and friends before I moved and then arrived in my new city on Monday. My stuff didn't come to my new place until Wednesday, and I had no internet until Thursday. I missed so many sweet posts and it is taking me forever to catch up! (You may notice my late as f**k to the party comments!) We also had to buy a bunch of new furniture (woo-hoo, there is an IKEA here!) as we had thrown out a bunch of old stuff and we're still not done unpacking yet. That little rant makes me sound like I'm quite crabby but actually I am enjoying this new change and my cats LOVE all of the space that they have to play in! Everything is good!

ANYWAY, today was the first day of my new job so I thought I'd post an old look that I took a picture of before work one day a few months ago. I wanted to try out my new MAC New York Apple lipstick so I just threw it on and wiped it off before work just to see how it looked! I call this "NSFW" because the makeup look is one of my go-to's for work, minus the lipstick. A bright red lip at my work would be, well, NSFW. Also, Sonia from Red Lips, Black Hair recently described a red lipstick as being NSFW and I loved it! This look actually sort of reminds me of her style. .........

CHEEKS: Hard Candy Blush Crush Baked Blush in Pinup.

BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.

LIPS: MAC New York Apple lipstick.

EYES: Base - UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Lid, Crease, Outer V - NARS Tzarine eyeshadow duo.
Lower Lashline - Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Uzi.

Upper Lashline - Maybelline Black Liquid Eyeliner.

MAC New York Apple - The red looks really orange-y in these pictures for some reason, but in real life it is actually a pink leaning red. It is a bit more subtle than the reds I would usually choose....classy!

Also, I see that several new followers have joined while I was away! Hello there! Thanks for checking out my blog!

I'll Kick You Squaaar IN THE NUTS!!

The moving truck is coming tomorrow to pick up all my stuff..........or are they? Someone was supposed to contact me today to tell me when they were coming, but no one did! SUPER! Oh yes, it has been a very super day of packing and wondering when they will pick up my crap. I am surrounded by boxes. Boxes make me think of squares which reminded me of a weird look I had floating around in my blogging folder. I will be away from the computer for a few days due to the f**kery of moving, so I thought I'd leave on a bit of a silly note!

A few months ago, when working out at the gym, I found an Elle magazine to read while flapping around on the treadmill. The look below caught my eye:

Taken from Elle Magazine. Makeup By Pat McGrath for Dior.

Before I continue, does anyone out there watch South Park? In a lot of the earlier episodes (from, like, over 10 years ago, when did I get so old???) Cartman used to always say, "I kicked him SQUAAAR in the NUTS!" It's funny because he doesn't say "square", he kind of pronounces it like "squaaaaar". ANYWAY, when I saw this look, I was like, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, SQUAAAAR EYESHADOW!!!!!" Yeah, that's about how organized my though process is. That is actually somewhat disconcerting.......moving on...... I knew the second I saw that squaaaar eyeshadow that I would have to try it myself. I also knew the second after I looked at it that the eyeshadow was actually rectangular rather than square. Erroneous geometry aside, here's my poorly executed rendition of this SQUAAAR eyeshadow look!

BROWS: UD 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Baked.

CHEEKS: A tiny bit of Hard Candy Blush Crush Baked Blush in Pinup Girl.

LIPS: MAC Cyber with MAC Glimmerglass in Blackfire over top.

EYES: Base - UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Lid - UD 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Electric.
Under Brow and Lower Lashline - UD 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Midnight Cowboy.
Upper Lashline - Maybelline Black Liquid Eyeliner.
Fake Eyelashes - Ardell Accent lashes in 305 Black applied with DUO Lash adhesive in Dark Tone.
Mascara - Maybelline The Falsies.

As you can see in the above photos, this was not well executed. The "squares" are not symmetrical, the eyeliner is IN NO WAY symmetrical (you'd think I'd be good at that by now), and one eyebrow is higher than the other. Now, one of my eyebrows IS higher than the other, but usually I can kind of conceal this. NOT TODAY! Anyway, it was lots of fun to do! Have a great weekend everyone!

A Light, Summery Look with Silk Naturals Eyeshadows

Since it's been rather goth around here lately, I thought I'd change it up today with my Silk Naturals look. This look is light and summery and a bit more "natural" than I would often go for with my makeup. I can even wear something like this to work, which is one of the reasons why I picked out certain colours from Silk Naturals. Also, here you will see something you may never see again....I'm not wearing ANY black eyeliner!

Silk Naturals Review and Swatches

I have seen so many lovely reviews of Silk Naturals on various blogs in the recent past. Since everything sounded so nice, I placed an order with them a couple of months ago and have been loving what I've got ever since! Here is a review 9 of the 10 eyeshadows that I purchased (one is a gift for a friend so it is not pictured or swatched here).

I find that the website is very easy to navigate and when you click on a product, there are swatch pictures, ingredients, information about colour family and shimmer, reviews, and related products. I felt that the swatch pictures and product descriptions were reasonably accurate. It also lists whether the product is vegan and gluten free, which is important for many people.  There is no lip safety information on the eyeshadows, but you can find more information under the "ingredients" tab. Personally, my safety is regulated by Health Canada and from what I gathered from emailing them, they don't really care what I put on my lips! In the United States, however, things are a bit more strict so you would have to look for specific ingredients in the product listing to find out whether or not the product was lip safe. I had no problems with customer service and I received my package very quickly!

Everything was packaged neatly and securely in pretty tissue paper in the mailing envelope. An invoice with my purchases was included which also had ingredient information printed on it. The eyeshadow comes packaged in sealed sifter jars, which is my preference. I enjoy the simple packaging and labelling of their eyeshadows; they come with a label on top of the jar listing the colour name. The label is durable, which makes me happy. There are no stickers on the bottom of the jar listing ingredients or anything which can be a problem for people who avoid certain additives for various reasons. Personally, I do not feel it is necessary to have ingredient information on a product because I do not avoid any ingredients, nor am I vegan nor allergic/sensitive to anything in particular. I prefer to look up the ingredients online if I really need to know. Overall, the packaging looks simple, clean, and professional.

Single eyeshadows contain 3/4 of a teaspoon in a 5 gram jar and are $4.00 US (they would be a little over $4 Canadian). I think that it is a great price for the quality of the product. Shipping to Canada was also very reasonable which is nice! Also, for each $30 you spend, you get to pick a free eyeshadow or lip balm, how awesome is that! You also get a gift with purchase for every order over $10. I got some of their Mineral Glow in Halo Glow to try.

Here are my thoughts on the eyeshadows I purchased:

THE GOOD: I really enjoy these eyeshadows! The colours are all very pretty and I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of shimmer in them! The swatches on their website did not show this aspect of the colours as much. The texture of the product is lovely, and they all blend well and apply nicely. They also pass what I like to call "the weekday test." I have a test that I like to do with eyeshadows that involves applying them over UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre in the morning, wearing them all day at work (or for 8 hours or so if they are not work appropriate colours) and then going to the gym/exercising for 1 to 1.5 hours. If my eyeshadow is not yet creased at this point, it has passed. I am happy to say that these passed the weekday test!

THE BAD: My only complaint that I can think of was that the swatch pictures MAY show the eyeshadows over the Silk Naturals primer which can be a bit misleading. I am not sure of this, but it looks like many of the colours show up a bit more pigmented than I was able to get them. It does not say on their website (that I could find, anwyay) whether the swatches are over primer or not. Once again, this is more of a personal thing. I prefer dry swatches as I have a couple of primers that I like and if I don't have the primer shown in the picture, I may not be able to get the eyeshadow to look the way it does in the swatch picture.

THE VERDICT: Overall, I love the eyeshadows that I got from Silk Naturals and I loved the fast shipping! The website has lots of information and is easy to order from. I am very happy with my order and I will certainly be a repeat customer!

From left to right: Pink Lemonade, Neuron, Madison, Eerie, Cloudberry.

From left to right: Mineral Glow in Halo Glow, Wired, Watermelon, Shangri-La, Safety.

STUFF I WANT TO TRY: Eyeshadows in Torn Fishnets, On the Rocks, Spellbound, and various others. Various powder blushes. Various cream eyeliners.

Captain James T. Kirk approves of these.
Stay tuned for a look using Silk Naturals!
