Club Look: Goth/Pinup Fusion

Here is another "fusion" type of look for clubbing. I have a little bit of fashion ADD as I like to call it; I can't just pick one style and stick to it. I like to play around with putting different style elements together to see how I end up looking. I have had a few people remark to me that I have a lot of clothes. While this may be the case to some extent, one can actually make many totally different outfits by mixing and matching pieces from one's wardrobe. FUN! This outfit combines elements of classic goth, cyber goth, and pinup/rockabilly style. For the makeup, I went for a more classic look rather than a dark and dramatic one to change things up a bit.

I also had a cute handbag to go along with the outfit. This isn't a very good picture of it but the bottom of it has ruffles and looks like a skirt. My husband actually bought it for me from a local store a long time ago and he was pretty that he picked something out himself!

James wishes he could dress in fusion style.

What kinds of different styles do you like to mix together?

Yves Saint Laurent Lip Stuff

Here are a couple of lip products from Yves Saint Laurent. Aren't the cases pretty? I feel so fancy carrying them around!

Left: Voluptue Sheer Candy Glossy Balm Crystal Color in 02 Dewy Papaya
Right: Rouge Voluptue Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in 17 Red Muse

One of the products that I tried was Voluptue Sheer Candy Glossy Balm Crystal Color (could they have given it a longer name????) These are sheer balms that give your lips a bit of tint. They are scented according to their names, i.e. I got Dewy Papaya so it smells like....papaya. I actually don't care for the smell of it. I got this product so I could wear it at work and swipe some on really quick to give my lips a bit of colour and shine (I don't wear much in the way of coloured lip products at work because I drink coffee while I work and often don't have time for touch ups). These balms are all very sheer but some provide more tint than others. They are supposed to be moisturizing but I don't really think they do a great job in that department.

The other product that I have is a Rouge Voluptue Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick. I picked Red Muse, which is a slightly orangey red. These lipsticks are very creamy and high quality. They are fairly long wearing and highly pigmented. They are expensive, but in my opinion you are getting a high quality product for the price in this case (which is NOT the case with all high-end products). I'm also lusting after Red Taboo and perhaps one of the nude shades.

Have you tried any YSL lip products? What did you think of them?

Livin' La Vida Loca

Whilst looking at my new Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca palette and pondering what sort of look to try with it, I began hearing voices. "Do a look with ALL THE COLOURS AT ONCE," they said. "YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO." So that is what I did. I decided to live la vida loca and just PUT THEM ALL ON!!! Just so you know, I don't actually hear voices. However, every time I look at this Mi Vida Loca palette I just can't get "LIVIN LA VIDA LOCA" out of my head!!!! DAMN YOU RICKY MARTIN!!!!

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.

BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.

CHEEKS: A Hot Mess Cosmetics blush in Afterglow and She Lies (A Hot Mess Cosmetics = I made them, lol.)

LIPS: I originally did this look with Fyrinnae Lip Lustre in Visual Kei. However, I had to go out and run errands and I thought that perhaps the bright lips with the colourful eyes was a bit overkill. I switched to MAC Dazzleglass in Pleasure Principle which is clear with sparkles that shift blue and pink.

EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
All shadows were from the Mi Vida Loca Palette
Browbone: Swan Song.
Inner Lid: Altruism and Sparklehorse.
Mid Lid: Marya and No Regrets.
Inner and Outer V: Drama For Your Momma and Mad Max.
Lower Lashline: Dublin and Autograph Pencil in Wonderchild.
Waterline: UD Perversion.
Upper Lashline: Maybelline Black Liquid Eyeliner.
Mascara: Maybelline the Falsies.
Lower Lashes: Medusa's Makeup Mascara in Envy (it's green!).

So which do you prefer? Bright lips or shiny sparkly lips?

On a side note, does anyone out there know if Ricky Martin still makes music? I don't really follow mainstream music anymore, I would have no idea. If so, could someone please stop him? Thanks.

Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette: Mi Vida Loca

Earlier this year, I acquired the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette. I thought I'd share some swatches because it has great colours for summer looks!

I definitely love the packaging!
From left to right: Swan Song, Marya, No Regrets, Drama For Yo Momma, Mad Max, Dublin, Sparklehorse, Altruism.
Eyeliner: Wonderchild.
Twiggy was helping me with my pictures.

Thankfully, there are no cream eyeliners or shitty brushes included in this palette (if you have any of the older Kat Von D palettes you know what I'm talking about!) I think the addition of a mini eyeliner is a much better idea than the cream eyeliner/shadows that dry out after a couple of months. Though the eyeshadow colours are pretty basic, they are of nice quality and pigmentation. My only complaint is that Swan Song and Marya look very similar on; Marya is a shimmery light pink and Swan Song is a shimmery white with a pink shift. The eyeliner is a really pretty colour, it is a deep, bright blue with sparkles. It goes on very smoothly.

From left to right: Altruism, Sparklehorse, Dublin, Mad Max, Drama For Yo Momma, No Regrets, Marya, Swan Song, Wonderchild Autrograph Pencil.

In conclusion, here are some words of "wisdom" from Kat Von D that are quoted on the back of this palette: "A smoky eye adds an instant air of mystery." Okay then.......I think it would be a bit difficult to make a smokey eye with the colours in this palette, but I suppose one could try.....

I'm WAY Behind!

Oh my, I am way behind on my blogging!! Well, I'm always way behind, as I don't go on the computer every day like most people do but I'm REALLY behind at this point!

At the end of May, I went to Montreal for a week for Festival Kinetik. Then when I got back, it was time to pack up my crap! My husband and I bought our first house and our posession date was in June. We had to get as much of it as we could done early as we were going to be out of town for several days for a family wedding. I was rather irritated to have all of my stuff in boxes again as I just moved one year ago!

After we moved, it took FOREVER to unpack all of our boxes! Also, our cats both went insane in the membrane. Cats really do not like change and they are taking quite awhile to adjust to their new surroundings.

At first, we were all like "WOOO, WE LIVE IN A HOUSE NOW!!! WE HAVE A HOT TUB!!!" And then we were like, "Oh crap, all we have is a bed and a couch. I have to shop for furniture and paint and mow the lawn and get pool chemicals and decorations........" and the list of things to do goes on and on. We rented small spaces for the last 9 years so we never had to do any of these things during that time and I'm finding that trying to work full time, go to the gym regularly, and get all your house crap done is very time consuming! Thus, we are also trying to set up a gym in the basement so I can cancel my gym membership. I HATE GOING TO THE GYM!!!! We were hoping to get a bunch of stuff done on the long weekend but it turns out that God Module, X-Rx, Aesthetic Perfection, Left Spine Down, and Imperative Reaction were all playing that weekend so we didn't get many house-related tasks done (FAIL!).

Anyway, uh, how about some makeup? Here are two red lipsticks that I got sort of recently!

Right: MAC Runaway Red. This is now one of my favourite reds!

Left: Avon Charged Cherry. My mom gave it to me because she didn't like it. I think it's a nice, summery, pinkish red.

Avon Charged Cherry is on the left, MAC Runaway red on the right.

In summary having a house and going out to too many industrial shows is a lot of work. I apologize for me floating around in your comments box 2 weeks after you posted something!!!!

Bye for now! I'm off to weed the lawn and look at paint samples! *boring* *gag*
