Goth Club Look: Blue Winter

It is the end of April. It is springtime. Springtime is not a good time for SNOW. A couple of days ago, I went out to my car in the morning to find about a half a foot of snow on it. I was not impressed. Why do I live in Canada again???? GO AWAY SNOW!! Anyway, the snow reminded me of a club look for which I used primarily blue cosmetics. I also wore some jewelry made by independent companies; the necklace I wore features a sparkling snowflake pattern (while I do love snowflakes, I'm not particularly fond of snowfall this late in the year). Read on to see the look and some accessories from some awesome independents companies!!

***INDIE JEWELRY SPOTLIGHT***

I enjoy finding independent, small companies that make clothing and accessories because they are great places to find unique pieces for your outfits! I got the snowflake necklace I'm wearing in my above outfit from Callooh and Callay. They are an independent jewelry company run by fellow blogger Lillian from Funny Face's Place and her partner Claire. They both model the jewelry for their online store which I think is awesome because they're both adorable and have their own unique styles.

I had no problems with customer service when ordering from Callooh and Callay and my item was shipped promptly and  packaged nicely with attention to detail (i.e. snowflake confetti in the box).

My necklace is gorgeous; it is made of mirrored acrylic and is VERY sparkly!

The Sparkling Snowflake necklace is still available and there are also lovely earrings and studs to match. If you are a fan of acrylic jewelry I would definitely check out Callooh and Callay, thier designs are all very striking and make excellent statement pieces. If you are gothically inclined I would recommend checking out their Cameo Brooch and Going Batty necklaces.

The cuff and collar that I am wearing in the above outfit is from Cryoflesh. They make a variety of masks, goggles, cuffs, collars, gauntlets, and other accessories. You can choose the colours and symbols that you want on many of the pieces. I think that this is awesome because you can get custom, handmade accessories for your outfits. I have ordered from this company many times and have had great customer service from them and they ship quickly as well. They have an excellent selection of unique clothing as well as clothing from larger companies (lipservice, etc.) I also think that they have a great selection of alternative menswear which can be harder to find. I would definitely recommend checking out their website, especially if you tend to dress cyber for clubbing.

RANDOM POST: No-Buy, Shoes, Cats, and Weird Thoughts

NO BUY

I have been faithfully sticking to my no-buy. I have not bought a SINGLE makeup OR nail polish related thing since March 1st. That is well over one month. I have NEVER done that before!

Here are some of the things I've resisted:

-China Glaze Magnetix polish or any other magnetic polish, OR any other China Glaze polish, for that matter

-A bunch of drugstore nail polishes (Maybelline, Sally Hansen Gem Crush)

-A bunch of Hits and Ozotic nail polishes

-Stuff from Illamasqua: APOCALIPS, Scribe, Kontrol, etc.

ARGH, Apocalips almost did me in. It's called APOCALIPS. It's TEAL. I want it. I also saw a display of inexpensive magnetic polishes and a bin of OPI nail polishes for $6 as I walked past a hair salon BUT I RESISTED. I am doing well.  Before the end of May, I will need to buy more foundation, primer, powder and eyebrow pencil (my basics that I use daily) but that is ALL that I am allowed to purchase. I actually feel somewhat free and have been enjoying shopping my stash as I have lots of nice stuff already!

SHOES

Sooooo.....it appears that when I stop buying makeup I start buying shoes.........

My old faithful pair of Demonia boots finally died. I had them for many years and they went with everything and they were comfortable and had a good "balance" for dancing. Unfortunately, after a night out where alcohol may or may not have been involved, I fell off of the curb of a sidewalk and THIS happened.  Good times on Whyte Avenue.....

I shall miss you, old faithful boots.

I was going to buy another of the same pair but I figured why not change things up a bit. I ordered some new Demonia boots with silver metal panels and HUGE platforms. They look very cyber and awesome but unfortunately the "balance" is off. They aren't as good for dancing as my old ones because my feet move around in them too much and they are too cyber to go with some of my outfits.  I might end up getting another pair of my old favourites after all.....

I also got my first pair of New Rock boots! I have been eyeballing New Rocks since I was like, 16 but they were too expensive for me while I was in university. Recently, my HUSBAND bought some and I was so jealous that I had to get my own pair. They are VERY well made with real leather and metal in the soles. I don't think that these will never meet the same fate as my old Demonia boots!

Awhile ago, while browsing the shoes at Aldo, I saw two highlighter-bright pairs of wedges. One was yellow and one was pink. There were matching neon purses to go with them. I LOVE NEON so I was pretty excited! I couldn't decide which colour to get so I went with the yellow shoes and got the pink purse instead of the matching one. The picture doesn't do them justice, they are BRIGHT. I am going to pair them with an all-black outfit.

I also got these quite awhile ago. They are Jeffrey Campbell "Night Nail" shoes. The lack of heel makes them very striking and they hae NAILS studded upon them. How cool is that? They are super easy to walk in even though they look scary. There were another pair of these that had spikes all over them, but I thought that I'd never seen a pair of shoes with nails in them before so I got these.

Here is an awesome pair of shoes that my friend gave me. She bought a pair of black suede heels and added the spikes, studs, and chains to them! They look awesome! I have to be careful not to stab anyone while I'm dancing around in them, lol!

CATS

Here is Twiggy playing with my nail file. Both of my cats have it out for the nail file for some reason. Whenever I use it they both try to fight me for it!

The cats like to look out the windows so my husband put up a shelf for them.

They also have a cat tree in the kitchen to sit on and look out the window. We leave the blinds closed during the day. James T. Kirk was not pleased with this. So, he chewed all of the slats off of the side of our venetian blinds so he can look out the window whevever he wants. WTF? I didn't think a cat would do something like this!

He is pretty damn pleased with himself and his handiwork. He was unfortunately really sick this week as he had crystals in his urine which is very dangerous for male cats. He's doing much better now.

STRANGE EYELASHES

Have you ever had one, weird, long white eyelash grow out of nowhere? Recently I had this happen to me. You couldn't really see it until I put on mascara and then it was like, WTF???  It is hardest to see in the last picture because I did not put mascara on it but you can see how long it got. Then one day, it just fell out. Seems kind of odd.

When I was a kid, I did not know what apocalypse meant so I thought his name was ApocaLIPS because he had those huge lips going on.  Now there is a lipstick called Apocalips. Life is strange.

Worksafe Monday: Urban Decay Naked and Naked 2 Palettes

YOU MAY WANT TO SKIP THIS POST. I know you have seen these 1000000000000000000000 times. You don't have to look. I am a completeness freak and when I get makeup I must post swatches of it. Since the first Urban Decay Naked palette came out, I had ignored both the original and Naked 2. The looks people did with them were gorgeous, but I felt it would be rather boring to buy a whole palette of neutrals. However,  after seeing 100000000000000000 posts with swatches and looks featuring the Naked palettes, a light bulb went off in my brain. What do I do almost every day........go to work. What type of makeup do I wear........neutral. I then decided to procure both palettes to make my work makeup routine less boring and to boost my neutral eyeshadow collection. I am pleased to say that I have been using both of these for every work look I have done for the past two months and I am not bored yet! There are so many different things you can do with these palettes!

I prefer the metal packaging of Naked 2 to the original which is made of a velvety material. The velvet tends to get powder and cat hair in it easily so it always looks a bit dirty.

There is only one eyeshadow that is the same in both of these palettes and it is Half Baked. I was surprised to find that the brushes included with these palettes were both well made and good quality. Also, Naked came with a mini primer potion (love this stuff) and Naked 2 came with a lipgloss. Naked seems to have more dark and warm colours whereas Naked 2 has more cool-toned shadows. All of the eyeshadows are excellent in texture and pigmentation except for Sidecar in Naked (worst glitter fallout EVER, which is too bad because it's an awesome colour) and Blackout in Naked 2 (very chalky). I wish that they had included a few more matte shades in these palettes; this would make them a lot better for more worksafe types of looks. However, the shiny, sparkly, and metallic shades make the palettes very versatile. Not only are these great for work looks, they also have sparkly and dark and metallic shades that can be used for going out. One might even be able to do a goth look with them.........muahahahaahaaaaaaaaa.

I'm sure everyone and their dog has these by now, but I would highly recommend them if you don't. They are extremely versatile and you get 12 high quality eyeshadows along with a good brush in each for approximately $ 60 CAD (depending on if you get them on sale or not), which is a great deal considering that higher end eyeshadows often cost $12 or more on their own. I have got a ton of use out of both of these in the couple of months that I've had them and I can't believe it took me so long to get on the Naked bandwagon!

A Bright Look Featuring My Pretty Zombie Cosmetics

Pink and orange is one of my favourite colour combinations when it comes to bright makeup. For this look, I used pink and orange eyeshadows from My Pretty Zombie. I wanted to try a bit of a different shape for a change; I tried extending the outer V down and around the outside of my lower lashline. I also wanted to try out one of the Drugs Like Me blushes and I went with MDMA. It's a gorgeous pink with a gold sheen that's perfect for spring and summer looks!

My Pretty Zombie Drugs Like Me Blushes and Eyeshadow Swatches

Hello! I just thought I'd share some swatches of eyeshadows and the Drugs Like Me Blushes from My Pretty Zombie. They are definitely one of my favourite indie companies because they have unique shades, I love their product names, and the company owner provides excellent customer service. When I saw the blushes that were named after drugs, I just had to have them since I used to work in biochem labs and I now work with pharmaceuticals. The packaging even has the chemical formula of each drug printed on each jar!! THIS PLEASES ME. YES IT DOES. There are also Drugs Like Me eyeshadows which I am drooling over but cannot have due to my self imposed no-buy. On to the swatches!
