Lip Service House of Widow Outfit

Hello! Here is a random (and recent, for once) outfit post. My friend had come to visit a few weeks ago and this is what I wore to go out. The whole outfit is made of stuff she has given me for birthday/xmas gifts. The ankle boots are a pair of wedges that she glued about a trillion crystals to the platforms. They look super awesome in low light.

Hair flower: Made by my friend
Necklace: Aldo accessories
Dress: Lip Service House of Widow
Leggings: House of Widow (they have a cool print on them, you can't really see it in the photo)
Shoes: Hand-crystalled by my friend
Purse: Not sure of the brand
Lipstick: MAC Hipster
House of Widow has some cool stuff if you like the whole Nu-Goth thing. The reason why I like this style is that I can use the clothes as day wear/non-club clothing and kind of look in style or something while still looking gothy.
I am quite irritable today. I didn't get anything done this weekend as I had a MIGRAINE. I haven't had one for years, but I'm not surprised as my job has been kicking my ass lately; they have made some changes to the scheduling which takes away most of my weekends off. It really sucks wasting a weekend off with being ill and missing out on plans with friends.  They are also terminating one of my co-workers that I really liked because she won't go along with their new ridiculous hours and reduced staffing levels. ARGH! ***END VENTING***
How was your weekend?
DISCLAIMER: I am not affiliated with Lip Service/House of Widow in any way. I provided the link because I like the stuff, I am not being compensated.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss

I just couldn't resist this little guy last time I was in Sephora:

I have never been a huge fan of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics lip tars (blasphemy, I know) despite their popularity. I have one and I find that it bleeds and feathers horribly and is very tricky to apply properly. However, I was VERY attracted to the colours of their Stained Glosses (there is also a bright yellow one but I restrained myself) and figured that they might be a bit more forgiving since they are somewhat sheer. When you squeeze the gloss out, it looks like FABRIC PAINT (did you ever use that stuff when you were a child?) It does migrate and bleed somewhat as you can see in my swatch photo. It IS definitely more forgiving and less feather-y than the Lip Tars, however. I enjoy how the neon orange gloss looks so frightening in the tube but ends up being quite wearable. I also like the cute little zip packaging with the mini lip brush.

My lip swatch looks rather patchy, but I have definitely applied it better than this (this photo was taken when my mouth was frozen after going to the dentist...it's hard to put on lip gloss when you can't feel your lips!)
Anyone else have any of these? Link to your swatches if you do!

WOOOO!!! It's finally getting cold out!! (I will be regretting that statement in a couple of months when it's like -30 out and we're under 10 feet of snow!) I can finally wear tights and boots and jackets and scarves and sweater dresses to work again!! My summer work wardrobe kind of sucks, it is hard to dress in a professional manner in hot weather and not sweat to death. It is also hard to wear lots of makeup in the summer and not sweat to death. We had a lot of very hot and humid days here this summer so I wasn't wearing much colour in my makeup as it is more noticeable when it starts to melt off one's face. However, when I got bored of neutrals I tried to throw in just a little bit of colour for a look that is still wearable yet somewhat interesting. Here is a look with one of my favourite makeup colours....orange!
P.S. These are actually recent pictures for once!
FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.
BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.
CHEEKS: Evil Shades Blush in Burlesque.
LIPS: Kat Von D Lightning Lip Gloss in Party Animal.
EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Shadows: Silk Naturals Safety, Spellbound by Jinx Fire Starter, and Tease, Snakebite, & Foxy (Naked 2).
Liners: Maybelline Black Liquid Eyeliner, UD Midnight Cowboy
Mascara: Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!!!).

Some other neutral + light colour looks I wore this summer:

Wearing Tease + Foxy (Naked2),  Fyrinnae Aye, Captain! (used as a wash, it can look a lot more bold than in this photo), UD Freak 24/7 liner, Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara.

Wearing Fuzzy Handcuffs and In the Buff (Too Faced Boudoir Eyes palette), UD Electric 24/7 liner, and Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara.

Summer Goth Fashion

I am SO GLAD that fall is fast approaching! I really do not care for summer clothes or hot weather; fall is that nice time where it is cool enough out to wear scarves and boots and nice jackets but not yet cold and freezing and snowing. Right now, it is +30 C (86F) which is REALLY weird for this time of the year, it is driving me NUTS! Anyway, this summer was a good year for clothing, as the whole Nu-Goth thing is kind of in style. This allows me to day-goth without attracting too much attention because lots of people are wearing black and flowing clothing these days. I usually don't have very much in the way of clothing for hot weather but I have certainly built up my stash this year! Here are some of the clothes that I have been loving this summer.
A nice, long, black, maxi dress is in style right now and perfect for summer! Luckily, Lip Service makes some with darker touches.
Dress: Lip Service
This one has chains that hang across your front or back (depending which way you wear them) and a sweet skeletal seahorse print! I also like this dress because it is a one-piece, low effort outfit. Sometimes when it is hot and humid out, I just don't have it in me to put on more than one item of clothing (me and hot weather do not mix!)

The dress below has some lacing detail around the waist, hanging ribbons on the straps and a really cool print of a broken arm. I am wearing a bandeau under the dress such that it is not so revealing in the chest.

Dress: Lip Service
Bandeau: Guess.
Earrings: H & M.
Necklace: Diabolik (Montreal).

Top: Plastik Wrap
Cuff: Le Chateau
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
I really love this shirt that I found while shopping in Montreal earlier this year. It is a sleeveless shirt, but the small details make it a bit less casual looking. It has a sheer cowl neck and an asymmetric line with a pointed, printed pocket. The tribal girl print is pretty awesome. The skirt is one of my favourite finds this year. It is from Forever 21 (so it was very inexpensive!!!) and it is super comfortable. It also flows in the wind. SWEET.
I also will purchase pretty much anything with a cross on it. I need help.

Sunglasses: I have no idea, I have been wearing them for like 10 years.
Cross Collar: Forever 21
Top: Forever 21
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell.
The shoes are another one of my favourite finds this year. I HATE strappy sandals but sometimes it gets too hot out for closed shoes. These JC's look like all-terrain, heavy duty sandals, which I can live with.
Anyway, I am glad that I was able to find some comfortable summer clothing that I actually LIKE this year. However, I am DONE with summer, let's bring on fall up in here!!

Maybelline Baby Lips

ARGH.....this was supposed to be the year of not buying makeup but it is really not going so well! Many of you will be familiar with the Maybelline Baby Lips products. I like these as they work like lip balm but provide a nice sheer tint to the lips that doesn't need a lot of touching up which makes them perfect for wearing to work in my case. Recently, I spotted the Electro collection out on the shelves so NATURALLY I bought all of them. When I purchased them they were approximately $3  CAD. I love love love the neon and black packaging and the colours are summer-y and awesome! They each have their own scent....while most of them smell nice, some of them are a bit overpowering in my opinion. Please note that my scent descriptions are rather subjective, they don't actually say what they are supposed to smell like. Unfortunately, my swatch photos did not really turn out that well (what else is new) but you get the idea.
From left to right: Strike a Rose (rose? scent), OH! Orange! (orange scent), Fierce and Tangy (lemon scent), Minty Sheer (mint scent), Berry Bomb (grape? berry? scent), Pink Shock (strawberry? raspberry? scent).

From left to right: Pink Shock, Berry Bomb, Minty Sheer, Fierce and Tangy, OH! Orange, Strike a Rose.

My swatches look REALLY sheer but in reality Pink Shock, Berry Bomb, OH! Orange!, and Strike a Rose can be built up a fair bit. Minty Sheer and Fierce and Tangy and are very sheer and you can't see the green or yellow colour on the lips but the green tint can tone down redness/pinkness so there is some effect there. Fierce and Tangy seems to make my lips a bit "brighter" or something, I can't really explain.  My favourite is Strike a Rose, it shows up on me as a pink-y peach-y pastel-yet-neon colour, if that makes any sense. I think it is quite flattering and I didn't have anything like that in my collection!

Have you tried these? What do you think of them?

Going Goth with the Naked Palette

I'm not much into the natural look when it comes to makeup, so I am kind of surprised that I have used both the Naked and Naked 2 palettes from Urban Decay so much. I actually use them almost every day for work makeup. Despite the somewhat boring looking shades, I find myself using these palettes for goth makeup as well as work makeup. The silvery, black, and gunmetal shades are very useful for dark cyber makeup.

Classic and Summer-y

Well, summer is almost over and I am READY for my favourite season of fall! I love fall clothing and makeup Summer clothes suck compared to the sweet boots and jackets and scarves that I can soon wear! Anyway, I still have some summery looks floating about on my computer (this one's from last summer, JEEZ) that need to get posted. For this look, I wanted something neutral and classy as I was going out for a nice dinner. When in doubt, I find that one can never go wrong with a neutral eye, lots of black eyeliner, and a red lip. For my lips I used NARS Norma gloss which I won as a freebie in a draw from their counter and I also used a tiny bit of colour on my eyes with My Pretty Zombie Miasma.
