Femme Fatale

Here's another example of my recent experimentation in the cabaret goth department. I really wanted to try out my new Femme Fatale Cosmetics stuff but all the colours were so pretty that I was having a hard time coming up with a look. However, I then thought of how Robyn from Stay Beautiful was doing "lucky dips" for awhile. I figured, "F*ck it, these colours are all beautiful, you can't really go wrong!" So I randomly picked 5 shades from the bag and went at it! I rather enjoyed the result, I should try that more often!

THE EYES

The ONE clear picture I get of my eye makeup and there is a freakin' CAT HAIR in my falsies!!! ARGH!
THE LOOK

The ONE non-blurry picture I get of my face and it is weirdly over-exposed and my mouth is open! ARGH!!
I was in this weird home decor/gift shop awhile ago and found this neat hair accessory. It has feathers and mesh and jewels and a rose and hanging chains with sparklies on the ends! I thought it would be good for my cabaret styings.

The earrings below I found for $4! I love great finds like this!

THE OUTFIT

For some reason, I wore boots with this outfit and they really don't go. ARGH! Heels would have looked a lot nicer with this ensemble.
Hair clip: Some random gift shop.
Wig: Shhhh! It's a Wig! JUST KIDDING it's from the goth store.
Necklace: Ebay.
Earrings: Suzy Shier.
Shrug: Local corset shop.
Corset: Sweet Carousel.
PVC w/ Lace Overlay Skirt: Handmade by my lovely friend.
Armwarmers: Handmade by me.
Bracelet: Le Chateau.

I have been having issues with taking photos in my house, the lighting is terrible, even in the daytime! Do you have any tips for lighting for photos? I am just terrible at this sort of thing!

Femme Fatale Cosmetics

A few months ago, I placed an order with the Australian indie company Femme Fatale Cosmetics (FFC). It is run by the lady who used to have a makeup blog called Ethereal Beauty. They offer a wide selection of blush and loose eyeshadow. Recently, they have started offering nail polish made by FFC and several other brands. Unfortunately, the nail polishes are only available to Australian customers (which is due to shipping restrictions). I ordered 12 loose eyeshadows and the full set of sample size blushes. Shipping was very quick considering that these were being shipped from Australia to Canada.

THE PACKAGING

As you can see, everything was very nicely packaged for shipping. I enjoy the packaging of the loose shadows. The label on top is simple and clean.

The labels on the bottom of the jars are great because they list all ingredients and whether or not the product is lip safe or vegan. This company DOES offer vegan choices and they have an option to shop under that specific category on their website.

I received a very generous 7 free samples with my order!  The samples are packaged in labelled baggies. There is enough product for several uses in each bag. I did not receive samples of anything that I purchased which I appreciate; it's a good thing when companies pay attention to detail!

SAMPLE SWATCHES

From left to right: Unholy, Sunfire, Shooting Stars, Mysticism, Moonglow, Flare, Dreamstate.

Unholy is such a neat colour! It looks black in the bag, but when you put it on it has this awesome green shift!! Note that these photos don't do any of these colours justice. Most of them are complex and shift in different lighting! Shooting Stars is another favourite, it is a nice soft purple with a great shimmer that I like to wear in my work looks.

FULL SIZE SWATCHES

From left to right: Dispersion, Demon Soul, Desecration,Crimson Fury, Blood's Shadow, Astral Recall.

From left to right: Nexus, Jinx, Inner Madness, Illusions, Flowers From Flames, Eternal Trance.

Note: If you are considering ordering from FFC, get EITHER Jinx or Nexus, they look almost the same in the swatches and in the pots, I can't tell which pot is which.

From left to right: The Nightmare,The Dark One, Spirit Bond, Shadow Dance, Polymorph, Poison.

Please note that these photos do not show the complexity of these colours! They are awesome!  If you would care to see some swatches done by someone with skills in photography, click here and here to see some from Prettymaking. The FFC website also has great photographs of the colours.

BLUSH SAMPLES

A good thing about the blushes offered by FFC is that they have some matte selections as well as shimmery options!

BLUSH SWATCHES

From left to right: Heaven Peach, Fortune Cookie, Fire Bloom, Fierce, Exotic, Aspect.

From left to right: Moonberry Rebel, Sunkissed Wine, Snowplum,Tranquil, Velvet Cupcake.

In summary, I was very impressed by the quality of the products offered, especially the loose eyeshadows. There are a wide range of complex colours to choose from. The company seems to be run in a professional manner, I had no issues with customer service and the website is very professional looking. Another great thing about the website is that they show very clear pictures and swatches of each colour which makes purchasing much easier.

I would definitely order again from this company and I would highly recommend them. I would really like to try out a few of their nail polishes, too bad they cannot be shipped here!

Availability: Femme Fatale Cosmetics

Have you ever tried anything from this company? What did you think?

MAC Strength Collection Lipsticks

If you are frequent user of MAC cosmetics, then you are likely familiar with their recycling program. You bring back 6 empties, you get a free lipstick, lipgloss, or eyeshadow. Since several of my basic products come from MAC (primer, foundation, powder, paint pot, eyebrow pencil) I have taken advantage of this many times and I always get one of their lipsticks as I am not a huge fan of their glosses or shadows. Lately, I hadn't really seen any interesting or bold lipsticks from MAC so I hoarded up my empties until I had enough for 3 free lipsticks. I decided to go check out a MAC store one day to see if they had anything I liked and THERE THEY WERE: the Strength Collection lipsticks!!! FINALLY! I had found what I was looking for! I didn't really see anyone else post about these on their blogs so I didn't even know about the collection!  Also, they are all Matte finishes so the colours are extra bold! SCORE!!

THREE FOR FREE!!!

Firm Form, Strong Woman, Absolute Power.

I JUST LOVE THE NAMES OF THESE!!

ABSOLUTE POWER

This is a fantastic red and it looks quite good on me if I do say so myself! It's probably the most flattering red  shade I own!

STRONG WOMAN

F**k yeah, this is a very striking, opaque, purple colour! It's like MAC Violetta on steroids!!!

FIRM FORM

INTERESTING VARIATIONS ON BLACK LIPSTICK FTW!!!! IT looks really funny with my work clothes and makeup as seen above, but it is awesome for clubbing or wearing out! It is a plummy black with gold glitter in it!! Because of the plum and gold tones, I think this could possibly be a wearable daytime colour for ladies with a very deep skin tone.

Did you find the Strength collection exciting? I SURE DID!!! It seems like more ladies gravitated toward the Archie's Girls stuff.

Burlesque Goth

I see that a lot of ladies are starting to put spring-y types of looks on their blogs.....not me! There is enough snow in my yard to choke a horse and it's been 20 degrees below zero (celsius) this week! Sometimes we still have snow all through May so spring looks will have to wait.

The month of February makes me think of lace and red and stockings and such, so I feel it is a perfect time to be posting some of my cabaret/burlesque goth looks. One of my favourite things about the goth music and club scene is that you can get creative and wear a variety of different styles. I usually like to wear clothes that fall more in to the cyber category, but I am getting bored with that and have been trying out cabaret/burlesque styles lately. This style involves elements such as garter belts, stockings, fans, corsets, etc; I suppose it could be described as burlesque-type outfits with a gothic twist.

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.

False Eyelashes: Red Cherry #102 Black.

I used a bunch of Estee Lauder Cyber Green, it looks mostly black here but it gives off a bit of a dark green shimmer in different lighting. It is a great shadow!

DIY HAIR CLIP TUTORIAL

Step 1: Glue a feather and a small faux rose to a hair clip with glue gun.

....aaaaaaand we're DONE!!!

I made this clip because most hair flowers I find are HUGE which makes them difficult to wear with short hair.

THE OUTFIT

Hair clip: DIY by me
Necklace: Le Chateau
Shrug: From a local corset shop (did not have a brand on it)
Bra that is too small for me but it is the biggest one they make: Lip Service
Armwarmers: DIY by me
Corset: Louise Black
Skirt: Lip Service
Garter Belt: Coquette
Stockings: Ebay
Shoes: Hades Eiffel
Cat: My baby girl Twiggy Ramirez

THE SHRUG

One of my favourite new finds for my wardrobe is this shrug! It can be worn with many different things to change up an outfit. I love all the different lace and materials and I love that it ties in the back so as to be adjustable! It has these cute little chains with crosses hanging down from the one side of it as well! Shrugs unfortunately emphasize the fact that I am broad-shouldered but on the plus side they hide my upper arms which I do not like.

Are you ready for spring makeup yet or are you still stuck in winter colours like me?

Valentine's Day Date Look *GAG*

So yeah, I guess it's Valentine's Day. I can never decide what to post so I am using Valentine's Day as and excuse to post a look I would wear to go out to a fancy restaurant. I usually tone my makeup down for this sort of occasion somewhat such that I do not get kicked out of said restaurant. One of my favourite lipsticks to wear with this sort of makeup is MAC New York Apple. It is a really pretty, frosty red that isn't IN YOUR FACE SEXY BOLD RED but rather a kind of a more toned-down classy red, in my opinion. If you're going to get all sappy and sh*t for Valentine's Day, I would recommend cracking out this shade if you have it!

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.

THE OUTFIT

Dress: Le Chateau
Cuff: Le Chateau
Purse: Gift from husband
Shoes: Spring

NOTE: I am wearing open-toed shoes with no toenail polish for some reason. My mother would kill me!!! (I didn't even bother to paint the three that are showing because I'm a busy girl on the go! A big thanks to Cassykins for bringing Willam's Beatdown to my attention!)

Alright, that's enough of the "proper" looks around here for awhile. For some reason, the whole V-Day type of thing makes me think of lace and stockings and corsets and the like........all those sorts of things that are involved in burlesque/cabaret goth style. Stay tuned for some burlesque/cabaret goth looks!
