Husband's Work Xmas Party

Hello everyone! I hope you all had great holidays! I have another holiday party look for you today. This one was for my husband's work Xmas party so therefore I kept the makeup toned down. If you know me, you know I have a hard time toning things down so I ended up going ALL OUT ON SPARKLE for my outfit details.  I was going to try to find some subtle jewellery to go with my heavily sequined dress but then I said F*** it and bought a super sparkly necklace (with SPIKES on it!!), earrings, and bangles. With the sparkly necklace there really was no need for the huge earrings but once again, F*** it. SPARKLE ON!!!

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15.
BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.
CHEEKS: MAC Coygirl.
LIPS: Gareth Pugh for MAC lipglass in Outrage.
EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Shadows: Inglot Matte,
Liners: Geisha Ink, UD Perversion, and UZI, Annabelle Glitterama Liquid Eyeliner in Plutonium.
Mascara: Clinique High Impact Mascara.
False Lashes: Ardell Demi's.

Dress: Le Chateau
Earrings, Necklace, Bracelets: Le Chateau
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell Night Nail
Bag: Vince Camuto

I really enjoy the dress that I found for this party. Being that it is black, it can be used again with different accessories for different events. Also, I believe it is supposed to be a bit longer than knee length which works really well for me. I often find that dresses that are meant to be knee length ride up on me and I don't like to show my upper legs; this one sat just perfectly and didn't ride up when I sat down. Another plus about this dress is the modest neckline and straps. If you have a larger bust, you know how hard it can be to find a party dress that is not strapless and/or doesn't show too much cleavage......not that there is anything WRONG with cleavage but for some events, this just isn't appropriate.
I also really enjoyed using my new evening bag.....me and my friend went shopping at the outlet stores in Las Vegas earlier this year. We found these cool mirrored clutches on sale for like $20. They are perfect for going out!

Let me know if you have been going to any parties and what you have been wearing!

Fun Party Makeup

Hello! It's December and it's that time of the year when many celebrate various holidays.....which means you may have parties to attend! One of the things I like to wear to a party is one of my good old LBD's. I love a reliable black party dress because it can be worn many different times without getting boring as it is easy to change up accessories, makeup, and shoes when the dress is plain black.

For this look I paired my black dress with a flower hair clip, a sparkly statement necklace and earring set, and bold lipstick. I absolutely love MAC Rebel, it is such a great colour! For my eye makeup I kept it neutral but added some colour on the lower lashline, some sparkly eye liner, and some false lashes.

Colourful Smokey Eye and Glossy Lips

Hello everyone! I haven't been doing a lot of blog-related stuff lately so I apologize for my super late comments on your blogs! I have been doing fun stuff like hosting a hot tub/poker party, learning to cook new recipes, learning to play bridge, reading about carnivorous plants, going to Las Vegas, and getting back into playing video games (because I am such a mature adult)! I also have been busy with not-so-fun stuff like work, a sick cat (she's doing better now) and working on my exercising and running......having a broken toe for 7 weeks that impeded my ability to exercise was NOT good for me!

Anyway, the holiday season is upon us. For many of us, this means going to various parties and family functions. Therefore, I shall be posting some holiday party makeup and outfit ideas featuring mostly my mainstream wardrobe. Many of the functions that I go to at this time of the year are either work or family related and therefore I must dress appropriately.

The outfit and makeup below were done for a wine/whiskey tasting and dinner that a friend of mine organized at a local restaurant. For my makeup, I did a colourful smokey eye and sparkly glossy lips. I think something like this is perfect for holiday parties as it is not too over the top but adds some interest to the classic smokey eye. Sheer glossy lips are great for any party where you will be eating; it is hard to keep very bold or dramatic lip colours looking perfect while eating.

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Stuio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.
CHEEKS: MAC Coygirl.
BROWS:  MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.
LIPS: MAC Dazzleglass in Rags to Riches.
EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Shadows: Tarina Tarantino Victorian Punk, L'Oreal Love To Hate Me quad, and probably a couple shades from Naked2.
Liners: Geisha Ink, UD 24/7 pencils in Perversion, Ransom and Psychedelic Sister.
Mascara: Clinique High Impact Mascara.

Hair Extensions: IKickShins
Earrings: Suzy Shier
Top + Skirt: Zara
Cuff: Le Chateau
Fencenet tights: Ebay
Shoes: Jennifer Chou

I am in love with these shoes. That is all.

I found these cool earrings on sale for $3. I like to shop for statement jewellery in the sale sections at clothing stores that I like. They often have a lot of large pieces on for a good price as it seems many people are afraid of statement jewellery.

Do you like big jewellery? What is your favourite accessory?

Purpleeeeeeeeeeeeeee (Read:I couldn't think of a title for the life of me)

When it comes to makeup, one of the colours that attracts me the most is purple. This is a purple look born out of lethargy on a boring day off when I couldn't get my ass moving for the life of me. Applying a few coats of makeup always helps me to get going!

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.

BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.

LIPS: Stila After Glow lip colour in Vivid Violet.

Stila's After Glow lip colours glow under black lights for some reason. I am highly entertained by fluorescent things for some reason.

Do you feel more productive when you slap on some makeup?

Colourful Cabaret Goth

Sometimes, I fall into makeup ruts. I do not feel very creative sometimes so I end up doing the same things over and over again. For example, If I am going out, I end up defaulting to black/silver/gunmetal eye makeup, false lashes + dark lipstick. While this is great and always works with club outfits, it gets a little OLD sometimes and stifles my creativity in the makeup department. You don't get any better at makeup if you don't try new things!

Anyway, a while ago, I got a new huge necklace from a local corset shop.

It has beads on it that sort of have an "oil slick" kind of effect where they shine purple, gold or blue depending on how the light hits them. I thought I would try something a bit more colourful than usual with my makeup; I tried to use the colours of the beads and go for a bit of a duochrome effect. It was definitely not something that I would usually do but I ended up liking it and it felt different and fresh!

Trendsetting in Tokyo

WOOO-HOOO!! Fall weather is here! It is time for scarves and tights and nice clothes and jackets and boots.....well, not boots at the moment since I broke my damn toe, but still!! Here is the last summer look I will post. When shopping my stash, I found my Stila Travel Girl Trendsetting in Tokyo palette. I just LOVE the colours in this one because I wouldn't have thought to put them together myself and the bright colours are very summer-y! Also, I love pink but find it hard to make pink makeup look good on me; the pink in this palette seems to serve me well! For this fall, I am loving dark navy and cobalt blue so I might be cracking out this palette for some fall makeup as well.

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.

BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.

LIPS + CHEEKS: Blush/Lip colour from Stila Trendsetting in Tokyo Palette.

EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Shadows: From Stila Trendsetting in Tokyo Palette.
Liners: Maybelline Black Liquid Eyeliner, UD Perversion, and Kat Von D Autograph Pencil in Wonderchild.
Mascara: Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara.

My full-face pictures didn't really turn out, my hair was going all weird because it was humid that day (this look was from the summer). I posted a picture anyway because I like how the blue eye shadow and liner look with my eye colour! I think the blue makes my brown eyes look a lot richer and deeper...or something.

What colours are you loving for fall?

An Ode to High Heels

Two weeks ago, I broke my toe by tripping over a piece of furniture in my bedroom like an idiot. It looked pretty gross; it was sticking out to the side and everything! It was quite painful at the time and has been causing me some issues with walking and at my job at which I stand all day. The biggest issue, however, is that I CANNOT WEAR ANYTHING EXCEPT RUNNING SHOES RIGHT NOW. Which means NO HIGH HEELS. I was told that I could not wear high heels for 4 to 6 weeks and my toe hurts so much that the only shoe I can get my foot into and walk around semi-comfortably in is a pair of old gym runners.

I look pretty silly going to work in my professional clothing (dresses and skirts) and wearing runners on my feet. At first I figured it wasn't that big of a deal because you do what you have to sometimes and appearance isn't EVERYTHING but now it is REALLY starting to get me down!

High heels make me feel GREAT. I stand straighter and taller, I have confidence, and I feel like I am put together. I enjoy clothing, makeup and fashion and I feel 100% better when I get up in the morning, shower, do my hair, do my makeup and put on a nice dress, jacket, and pair of high-heeled boots. When I feel put together, my mood is better and I feel like I can take on the day! My clothing and makeup style are also a form of self-expression and creativity for me. It was irritating enough when I had to tone down my style for the dress code in my line of work, and it is really driving me nuts to not be able to wear the shoes that I like. Also, I don't care if other people see me wearing runners with a dress and think I look ridiculous. At this point in my life, I dress in a way that makes ME feel good about myself, and I DO NOT feel very good about myself walking around wearing shoes that I would usually wear to exercise or dig up crap in the yard.

It is finally boot weather where I live and I have a lovely new pair of boots for work sitting in the closet along with a gorgeous new pair of leather and suede ankle boots for fall outfit-making.  I also have a new pair of black and iridescent green 6 inch heels for clubbing purposes. I cannot wear them. OH, THE SORROW!!! *SOBS while scrolling through the Solestruck website*

Anyway, here is a beautiful pair of high heels that my friend gave me. She bought a pair of black heels and artfully added spikes, studs, and chains to the back. I wear them with my alternative wardrobe as well as with my more mainstream clothing to spice things up a bit. (I can't get my foot into them now, *sob*)

I wore the following outfit to dinner with a group of friends at a nice French restaurant. I like this dress because it is super comfortable and light-weight for when it is HOT in the summer. Thankfully, the cooler weather has blown in and it is time for FALL clothes!

Dress: Le Chateau
Necklace: Bunny Paige (Learned of this company on Phyrra)
Shoes: Embellished by my friend

*Also, just to clarify, I know I am being over-dramatic and that this is a silly first world problem.*

Do you have an element of your style that you would have a hard time living without?

Worksafe Monday: Clinique

Happy Monday!!!

When I go to work, I always coat myself with as much makeup as I possibly can without risking being fired as it helps me get through the day. However, I am often negligent about wearing lip products; many lip products are unforgiving and require touch-ups and some days I barely have 2 seconds to run to the bathroom so this doesn't really work for me. However, I have found a shining, lovely, wonderful Holy Grail worksafe lip product. May I present to you:

Sorry for the anti-climactic crappy quality photo!!
It is just super! It won't get me fired!! It is sheer and doesn't bleed! It fades naturally and even stains a bit to keep my lips visible when I am super washed out at 6:30 am!!! It has BLACK in the name!!!! ***angels sing***

AHEM. Anyway,I have a double-ended version of the product that has both the lipstick and the gloss. I love how the lipstick, while being very sheer and natural looking on, looks BLACK in the tube! It makes me feel like I am super cool instead of a boring employed responsible adult.

Apparently, this is one of Clinique's best-selling products and I can see why. I think this would look great on a wide variety of people and it is just one of those things that perks up your look if you be lookin' like s**t ran over twice (we all have those days!)

Since I was shopping at the Clinique counter, I thought I would try out some of their Chubby Sticks. The only reason I wanted to try them is because of their egregious names. (I initially read about them in this blog post. I enjoyed the polite reference to "chili that has already been consumed.") I picked the following two because I thought they had the most terrible names. May I present to you:

Now I know this has been said before but WTF is with these names???? (Some other real winners are Two Ton Tomato, Woppin Watermelon, Oversized Orange, Pudgy Peony, Portly Plum, Fuller Fudge, Oversized Orchid.....GOOD LORD!!!)

When I put on makeup, I want to feel AWESOME. I know the name has nothing to do with how a product makes one look, but being that I am a makeup addict, the packaging and nomenclature of products is a big deal to me. That's why I like wearing lipsticks such as MAC Lady Danger, Strong Woman, and Rebel....these names make one feel confident and mysterious and bad-ass (even when you are super boring and watch Judge Judy for fun like me.) When I wear my Clinique Chubby sticks, am I supposed to feel like an oversized, portly, hefty, chunky ol' bowl o' chili!?!? GAH!!! NO!!! NOT that there's anything wrong with being a less than petite woman, as I am not exactly svelte myself, but the word choice here is less than flattering.

Crappy names aside, Heftiest Hibiscus is a nice, bright shade to spice up my work makeup. I find it is quite long-wearing as well. Chunkiest Chili has a softer formula and bleeds and slips around a lot more so it isn't my favourite for work.

Have you tried these? What do you think of the names?

Blue and Gold

Hello there! Here is a look I did to go out dancing when it was really hot out this summer. I wore one of my dresses from Pinup Girl Clothing. I did blue and gold eye makeup which is not something I usually wear but I ended up liking it. I put black hair extensions in as well as some blue and turquoise accents just for fun.

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.
BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.
CHEEKS: Tarte Park Avenue Princess.
LIPS: Avon Everlasting Lip Gloss in Always Apple.
EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Shadows: Inglot Matte 353, Sugarpill Hellatronic, Afterparty, and Velocity, Aromaleigh Regifted foiled with Lise Watier Metamorfix.
Liners:Geisha Ink and UD Perversion.
Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex.
False Lashes: Some random ones I found in my drawer.

Hair extensions: I Kick Shins
Dress: Pinup Girl Clothing (Garden Party Dress by Dixiefried)
Belt + Bracelet: Random accessory store
Shoes: Aldo

I really love this dress because I love anything that's black with a brightly coloured print. It is super comfortable and I love how the straps cross in the front. It's also a light enough material that you can wear it in the heat of summer. Please ignore the fact that I cannot pose whatsoever and have a weird look on my face and the dress is kind of bunched up as I did not fix it before taking my outfit picture; it is a great dress, I swear!

So are you ready for cooler weather and fall trends or are you going to miss the heat?

My First Pop Music Concert: BSB

A few months ago, a friend from work asked me if I would like to attend the Backstreet Boys concert with her. "ABSOLUTELY NOT," said I. Then, like an hour later, I got a text from my sister saying she is coming to the city where I live to go to the Backstreet Boys concert and would I like to come with her. I begrudgingly consented to do so after I thought about it for awhile. I realized that I had NEVER attended a pop music concert in my entire life before! As the people who are way younger than me say these days: YOLO. I figure I might as well fill my life with various types of experiences. I brought along my camera to document this strange event.

For my makeup I decided to go with a pink theme. I used MAC Superglass in Fab Frenzy, Evil Shades Eyeshadows in Danger Sox and Zombie, UD 24/7 Liner in Woodstock, Lise Watier Eye Glitter Liner in Black Orchid, and Too Faced Pink Leopard Bronzing Powder.

I had NO IDEA what in the world to wear to this sort of thing. I went with a one-sleeved shirt that I hadn't worn for a long time and a faux leather skirt from H&M that I found in the depths of my closet. My sister's shirt is Material Girl, I believe.

I took various pictures of their dance moves because grown men in matching suits doing silly choreography looks hilarious. I am told by other people who have expertise/previous experience in the area of BSB concerts that their moves and singing voices are not as tight as they used to be.

Jam on 'cause Backstreet's got it

Out of all of the members of BSB, I had to say that Kevin looked the best, danced the best, and had the best singing voice; he is also the oldest member of the band. Well played, Kevin. Well played.

Just look at Kevin go. He even plays the keyboard. Great job!
I enjoyed the fact that they did not take themselves too seriously. They made jokes about how the crowd was old and we should have fun like we are teenagers again and stuff.

Lighting up the place with cellphones. BACK IN MY DAY, WE USED LIGHTERS AT CONCERTS ***shakes cane***

Some fans got to go on stage with them. None were teenage girls.

Just look at those moves......

Full disclosure: I actually knew ALL the words to 90% of their songs. Sad how your brain retains crap that you haven't listened to since you were 10 years old but when I need to remember something important at work my mind goes blank. I actually had a pretty fun time with my sister and my friend from work, it's nice to do something that is completely not your thing every now and then!

When I was a 10 year old BSB fangirl my favourite was BRIAN. If you used to be (or still are) a BSB fangirl who was YOUR favourite?
