Blue and Gold

Hello there! Here is a look I did to go out dancing when it was really hot out this summer. I wore one of my dresses from Pinup Girl Clothing. I did blue and gold eye makeup which is not something I usually wear but I ended up liking it. I put black hair extensions in as well as some blue and turquoise accents just for fun.

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.
BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.
CHEEKS: Tarte Park Avenue Princess.
LIPS: Avon Everlasting Lip Gloss in Always Apple.
EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Shadows: Inglot Matte 353, Sugarpill Hellatronic, Afterparty, and Velocity, Aromaleigh Regifted foiled with Lise Watier Metamorfix.
Liners:Geisha Ink and UD Perversion.
Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex.
False Lashes: Some random ones I found in my drawer.

Hair extensions: I Kick Shins
Dress: Pinup Girl Clothing (Garden Party Dress by Dixiefried)
Belt + Bracelet: Random accessory store
Shoes: Aldo

I really love this dress because I love anything that's black with a brightly coloured print. It is super comfortable and I love how the straps cross in the front. It's also a light enough material that you can wear it in the heat of summer. Please ignore the fact that I cannot pose whatsoever and have a weird look on my face and the dress is kind of bunched up as I did not fix it before taking my outfit picture; it is a great dress, I swear!

So are you ready for cooler weather and fall trends or are you going to miss the heat?

My First Pop Music Concert: BSB

A few months ago, a friend from work asked me if I would like to attend the Backstreet Boys concert with her. "ABSOLUTELY NOT," said I. Then, like an hour later, I got a text from my sister saying she is coming to the city where I live to go to the Backstreet Boys concert and would I like to come with her. I begrudgingly consented to do so after I thought about it for awhile. I realized that I had NEVER attended a pop music concert in my entire life before! As the people who are way younger than me say these days: YOLO. I figure I might as well fill my life with various types of experiences. I brought along my camera to document this strange event.

For my makeup I decided to go with a pink theme. I used MAC Superglass in Fab Frenzy, Evil Shades Eyeshadows in Danger Sox and Zombie, UD 24/7 Liner in Woodstock, Lise Watier Eye Glitter Liner in Black Orchid, and Too Faced Pink Leopard Bronzing Powder.

I had NO IDEA what in the world to wear to this sort of thing. I went with a one-sleeved shirt that I hadn't worn for a long time and a faux leather skirt from H&M that I found in the depths of my closet. My sister's shirt is Material Girl, I believe.

I took various pictures of their dance moves because grown men in matching suits doing silly choreography looks hilarious. I am told by other people who have expertise/previous experience in the area of BSB concerts that their moves and singing voices are not as tight as they used to be.

Jam on 'cause Backstreet's got it

Out of all of the members of BSB, I had to say that Kevin looked the best, danced the best, and had the best singing voice; he is also the oldest member of the band. Well played, Kevin. Well played.

Just look at Kevin go. He even plays the keyboard. Great job!
I enjoyed the fact that they did not take themselves too seriously. They made jokes about how the crowd was old and we should have fun like we are teenagers again and stuff.

Lighting up the place with cellphones. BACK IN MY DAY, WE USED LIGHTERS AT CONCERTS ***shakes cane***

Some fans got to go on stage with them. None were teenage girls.

Just look at those moves......

Full disclosure: I actually knew ALL the words to 90% of their songs. Sad how your brain retains crap that you haven't listened to since you were 10 years old but when I need to remember something important at work my mind goes blank. I actually had a pretty fun time with my sister and my friend from work, it's nice to do something that is completely not your thing every now and then!

When I was a 10 year old BSB fangirl my favourite was BRIAN. If you used to be (or still are) a BSB fangirl who was YOUR favourite?

Summer Fashions!

Summer will soon be over and it will be time for fall fashions and makeup.....my favourite! It is still really hot and humid here so I've been trying to find ways to dress nicely while staying relatively cool. I like to add some bright colours to my blacks in summer if I can; one of my favourite colours to wear in the summer is orange! Speaking of orange, I got MAC's Lady Danger lipstick last summer and forgot about it......good thing I'm on a year long no-buy! I found this orange-red beauty in my stash and now I see why all the bloggers rave about it....it is AWESOME! Try it on, you'll feel amazing!

Sunglasses: Le Chateau
Lipstick: MAC Lady Danger
Peplum Top and Bag: Zara
Skirt: Buffalo
Watch: Nixon
Shoes: Clarks

I don't usually like strappy, sandal-like shoes but sometimes it's so hot out they are kind of  necessary! I found some black and orange ones on sale at Spring that I couldn't resist. I like to wear them with my long tulip skirt (it kind of has two flaps that come together in the front like a tulip but it is long in the back, you can't really see it with me standing sideways in the picture.) I wanted a pair of orange earrings to go with them and I found some neat vintage ones on Etsy. I wanted them to have black on them as well, so I added a couple of black spikes. Spikes make everything better!

Earrings: MrsFinder on Etsy with added black spikes
Top: Guess
Skirt: Target
Shoes: Spring

I like wearing my orange accessories and shoes with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss in Androgyne. It is a lot more wearable than it looks!

What colours do you like to wear in the summer?

Worksafe Monday

I haven't posted a work safe makeup look in quite awhile! I have not been doing anything very interesting with my work makeup lately; however, my months of not buying new makeup has got me digging through my stash. I am re-discovering lots of nice things!  Recently I pulled out some shadows from Silk Naturals that have lip-gloss like packaging.  I used them to make a wearable work look that had a bit of colour in it. Often I just end up using taupe, grey, brown, or colours similar to my skin tone for work because I find it hard to use colours for neutral makeup. I think I succeeded in making a work-safe look with a bit of lavender and pale yellowish gold.

Kat Von D Autograph Pencil in Piaf, Tokyomilk Dark Get Lucky Lip Tint, Silk Naturals Angelic, Dainty, and Deviant.

I ended up using the lavender colour (Dainty) on my lid, blending out the dark taupe (Deviant) into the crease, and using the pale yellow (Angelic) in the corner of my eye. I used Piaf eyeliner on my lower lashline but left my waterline alone. I used a Tokyomilk Dark lip tint for my lip colour as it is an MLBB sort of shade. It was nice to wear makeup with a bit of colour and shimmer to work for once.

When you get bored of your everyday makeup, how do you spice things up?

Green Makeup and Gardening

Summer will soon be over, and while fall is my favourite season of the year, I am always sad at the end of summer because gardening season is over. I find that working in the garden is very relaxing and I like to work on projects that add colourful flowers and foliage to my yard. I currently have a full sun perennial garden, a shade perennial garden and I also plant several containers. Container garden design is one of my favourite hobbies (I'm going to be the best old lady ever, lol!) This year, I planted several shrubs, some Virginia creepers, and various perennial plants. I also grew some fresh herbs in my kitchen. Next year, I will add a few more shrubs, work on improving my shade garden, and I hope to add a prickly pear cactus to my full sun perennial bed. I will also hopefully be adding a vegetable garden to my back yard which will I am super excited about!

Anyway, here are some fun green makeup products and a few pictures of some of my plants!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Freak, MAC Lipglass in Spring Bean, Sugarpill Chromalust in Absinthe, and Aromaleigh Cricket.

Succulents and Cacti

Cobweb Hens and Chicks
Oriental Lilies and Bee Balm/Bergamot
Angelica Sedum and "Black" Calla Lilies
Coleus, Sweet Potato Vine, Irish Moss, and Ornamental Millet

Oxalis, Coleus, and Canna Lilies
Any other gardeners out there? What are you growing this year?

Summer Makeup and Outfit

WOW it has been hot outside lately!!! It has been said before but I will say it again: it's hard to dress in an alternative fashion in the summer!! I may not have posted about this much before, but I do really enjoy the retro/pinup sort of style. I also really love to wear dresses; I find that retro style dresses are perfect for looking something resembling put together in the heat.

I wore this outfit to an outdoor festival where you taste food from a bunch of different restaurants. I kept my makeup simple with plain neutral eyeshadows from Inglot with some demi false lashes just to keep things interesting. I also wore a bit of Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess as my shoulders and arms are rather tan as I have not been vigilant about wearing sunscreen this year (BAD!) I wore my new MAC Sheen Supreme Lipglass Tint which was perfect for eating as it stays on pretty well and is sheer enough that it doesn't look messed up after you eat.

To do my hair, I set it in hot rollers and then put it in a loose ponytail. Used a twisty hair scarf from American Apparel as an accessory.

Hair scarf: American Apparel
Dress: Pinup Couture Daisy Dress
Bolero: Pinup Couture
Shoes: Clarkes (My work shoes, not very stylin' but good for walking around)

The dress I wore is super comfortable is great for hot weather! Since I was at the event until the sun went down, I brought along a bolero for when it cooled off. It is small enough that I can fold it up and bring it along in my purse. I have been really enjoying dresses from Pinup Girl clothing lately, I have my eye on a few more dresses to possibly add to my collection.

Do you like vintage/retro style?

MAC Nail Transformations and Moody Blooms

NO BUY UPDATE: I have officially gone 6 months without buying new makeup!!!!

Thankfully, my friend got me some makeup for my birthday so I have had a couple of fixes here and there! She got me some things from MAC Moody Blooms and Nail Transformations. First off, can I say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the promotional imagery for Moody Blooms!! I am a gardening and weird plant enthusiast so I am totally into these pictures (image taken from MAC website obviously).

I got the Sheen Supreme Lipglass Tint in Blushing Berry. She made a good choice because it looks quite flattering on me if I do say so myself! It is a really nicely textured product; it's not runny but not too sticky either. It has a twist bottom and dispenses product onto a lip brush. The lip brush is nicely textured and smooth. Be careful not to twist it too much! I cranked the sucker (as you need to do on other products such as this) and wasted a bunch :(

I enjoy this as it is buildable; I can wear a sheer coat for work or wear lots of it to go out. I find that it is also a great product to wear for going out to eat, it is quite forgiving and doesn't end up looking messed up afterwards.

I also got a Liquid Pigment Topcoat from Nail Transformations. This little beauty is Green Pearl, it is intended to be worn over other colours to make them look different, thus transforming one's nails.

I actually think it looks quite nice on its own as a sheer colour. I often wear sheer colours on my nails to work as I always chip my nails at work and sheer colours are a lot more forgiving.

It makes your nails look nice and shiny and when it catches the light it shines an almost metallic green with a bit of an orange shift.

I decided to try this over top of a matte neon green polish (China Glaze something or other, it doesn't say on the bottle). The matte texture really emphasizes how much I suck at evenly painting my nails so I thought this topcoat would disguise that somewhat. I liked how it gave a nice metallic finish, but then realized that in order to really transform my nails, I should not paint Green Pearl over GREEN. DUH.

I tried it as a topcoat over red (OPI All The Berry Best To You) and black (OPI Black Onyx) and it looks pretty cool! I especially like it over black.

Did you try anything from Moody Blooms or Nail Transformations?
