Random MAC Swatches

Spring Cleaning swatch time. Here are some random MAC Lipsticks that I aqcuired a long time ago and never posted (thank you, Back 2 MAC!)

Oh, how I love MAC lipsticks! They come in a million beautiful colours and finishes, the formulations are always great, and I feel awesome whenever I am wearing one of them!

DAMN, Lady Danger is awesome! It is this bright orange-ish retro-yet-modern looking red. It took me forever to get this one but I see now why it gets raved about on blogs left and right. Black Knight is alright as far as black lipsticks go; however, it is a bit sheer and slippery as it is a Satin finish. It would be best to wear it over a lip pencil of some sort.

From left to right: Modesty, Rocker, and Saigon Summer.
I picked out Modesty and Saigon Summer so I could wear some lipstick to work, which I don't often do. Modesty is, well, modest enough for work but I feel it is not QUITE right on me for some reason. It is passable and I wear it, but I feel like I could have picked something more flattering (I am really bad at picking out neutral lipsticks that play well with my skintone.) Saigon Summer is a nice peachy orange that, once again, looks a bit off on me. It looks nice with some coloured gloss over it but that renders it too fussy for work. I shall be cracking it out for some spring looks soon!  Rocker is an awesome berry shade with sparkle that I wear to go out all the time.

Old picture here. Pardon my looking like shit, I can tell I took this before work/early in the morning/pre-coffee.

Dear MAC Cosmetics,

Your lipsticks are awesome. Stop naming them so irritatingly (See: Candy Yum Yum, RiRi Woo.)

Thank you.

Anyway, Riri Woo, which sounds like nails down a chalkboard when I say it out loud, is SUPER SUPER DRY. DO NOT WEAR THIS IF YOU HAVE DRY LIPS. It is a Retro Matte finish and WOW it is dry. However, it looks delightfully retro and matte when you have it on and is perfect for pin-up makeup.

I was never much of a lip pencil person but got tempted in to getting Nightmoth after seeing it on blogs. OH MY STARS, I am in LOVE with it!!! It is so edgy and chic. I never would have worn a lip pencil by itself before but I wear this all the time! If you goth about, this is an excellent thing to have around for clubbing because it is so long-wearing and looks awesome with a wide variety of eye makeup.

What is your favourite MAC lipstick? Do you like any of their pencils?

Spring Florals Featuring Putrella the Giant Corpseflower

In the city where I live, there is a plant conservatory which I visit often. They have a collection of Amorphophallus titanum, or corpse flower, plants there. Recently, one of them bloomed! This may not sound too exciting at first; however, this event was only the 3rd time in all of Canada that one of these plants had bloomed so it is a rare event! Because it is a rainforest plant, it rarely blooms in cultivation. Also, the flower itself was 6'8" tall, only stayed open for a few days, and smelled like rotting meat! The conservatory stayed open all night on the day it bloomed so more people could come to see it and, as a plant enthusiast, I had to go! I decided to get dressed up in something with a floral print, despite the fact that it was pretty darn cold out for "spring".

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.
BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.
CHEEKS: MAC Mineralize Blush in Sakura.
LIPS: MAC Lipgelee in Shift to Pink.
EYES: Base: UDPP and MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
Shadows: MAC Vex, Sugarpill Magnetric, Voulez Vous from the Too Faced Boudoir Eyes palette, and L'Oreal Accentuated Taupe quad.
Liners: Geisha Ink and UD Woodstock.
Mascara: Clinique High Impact.

Dress and Scarf: Le Chateau
Tights: H&M
Shoes: Hand-Bejewelled by my friend.

The people at the conservatory have named the plant "Putrella". When I got to see her, she didn't smell as strongly as she apparently does when she first opens. I would describe the smell as a combination of a sulfurous odour mixed with the smell of lunch meat that has been sitting in a closed container at room temperature for several weeks. Gross!

Any other plant enthusiasts out there? Have you ever seen one of these flowers before?

Back to the Future

Where I live, there is a beautiful art gallery that holds regular themed parties. The party I went to recently had a theme of "Back to the Future"... most people interpreted the theme by dressing in retro clothing from different eras. I was one of very few who dressed in a futuristic manner. It is always interesting to see how everyone interprets the theme with their outfits; some people do amazing things! There is always food served, activities to participate in, and there are DJ's you can dance or you can go through the gallery to look at all the art.

Sugarpill Tiara, MAC Nightmoth lip pencil, A Hot Mess Cosmetics Blush in Last Day on Earth.
I didn't do too much with my makeup; I just used some good old black and silver eyeshadow, some blush that I mixed up and MAC Nightmoth Lip Pencil.
For my hairstyle, I did a 4-bun mohawk which I saw in a picture of the Marc by Marc Jacobs NYFW show. I HATE having my hair down and it wasn't that hard to do so this was a great style for me!

Shrug and Skirt: Lip Service
Long Sleeve Shirt: Le Chateau
Top: Zara
Tights: H&M
Shoes: Jennifer Chou

Unfortunately, even though it was "spring" at the time of the event, I ended up walking through, like, a FOOT of snow with these on. When I got into the venue, the first thing that I did was slip on the floor in front of EVERYONE as the soles have no grip. EPIC FAIL. It is not good to wear an obnoxious pair of shoes and fall off of them the first second you walk through the door!

Have you ever taken a fall off of some awesome shoes when you were out? Do tell me that I am not the only person who embarrasses myself in public!

Random Swatches: Too Faced

Today's Spring Cleaning Swatches will be Too Faced products. Too Faced has been one of my favourite makeup brands since my friend got me some of their stuff as a gift. They make excellent quality products in pretty packaging; they also make some of my daily staples such as their Pink Leopard Bronzing Powder.

I had to try this out to see how it compares to my beloved Urban Decay Primer Potion. For me, UDPP is the winner. UDPP has a much drier texture which works better for me as I have oily eyelids. It's not that it doesn't work, it just doesn't hold out for as long.

I LOVE this palette! Ironically, I use the "Boudoir" palette for my day to day work looks. There are some lovely purple/mauve/taupe/grey neutrals in it which are great for making more "interesting" daytime looks. I have already completely used up Fuzzy Handcuffs. My only complaint about this palette is Sugar Walls; it is a beautiful colour but it is the WORST glitterbomb ever! I wore it to work once and by lunchtime I had fine glittter all over my FACE. NOT a good look for work per se.

From left to right: In the Buff, Fuzzy Handcuffs, Voulez-Vous, Satin Shorts, Sugar Walls, Garter Belt, Birthday Suit, Lap Dance, and French Tickler.

This lovely little gift set came with Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, Lip Injection Colour Bomb! in Never Enough Nude, and Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow. I really like the mascara, it gives great volume and length with somewhat of a messy finish. Is is better than sex? Depends on who you are having sex with. The blush gives a really nice semi-neon semi-pastel pop of colour and I wear it quite frequently. The lip pencil is a lovely colour but the whole "lip injection" thing causes a bit of an issue for me. There is something in it which causes blood vessels in the lips to engorge and thus produce a plumping effect (it DOES really do this, I swatched it on my arm and when I washed it off there was a bright red patch of skin underneath!) However, I find that it sometimes causes redness AROUND my lips which makes it look like a five-year old coloured your lips outside of the lines or something. Not a good look.

Colour Bomb! Lip Injection in Never Enough Nude, and the 3 colours in the blush swatched separately, which makes no sense as they all swirl together. Hm.
Are you a Too Faced Fan? What is your favourite product of theirs?

Spring Purple Makeup

When spring rolls around, I always feel like wearing purple eye makeup. I have been trying to practice my work-safe coloured eye makeup skills lately. Often, when I bring out colourful eyshadow, I tend to go a bit overboard. Today's makeup is something I would wear both to work or on a day off.

Good day! It is the weekend so it is time for a clubbing look. I used a bunch of metallic purple eyeshadows and I really enjoyed how my makeup turned out for this look! Unfortunately, none of my makeup pictures turned out (OF COURSE).  This was the first time that I had tried my Sugarpill false lashes in Angel Baby. The purple lashes look super neat!!

Random Swatches: Illamasqua

Time for some more Spring Cleaning Swatches.....This time, we have some lovely stuff from Illamasqua, most of which I bought in London when I went in 2013. I felt as though I was so fancy, shopping at the actual Illmasqua store in the UK.......then when I came back, I realize that they had a counter at The Bay in Canada so I was all sour and never posted these.

I got all of these from the Illamasqua store in London except for Pristine which I bought off of another blogger. The Sophie blush is is a flattering shade, but it is HIGHLY pigmented so you need to be careful about how much you use!

From left to right: Kontrol, Apocalips, Disciple, Pristine, Sophie blush.
My husband had also given me their Bat Lash Duo for Xmas awhile ago. The bat lashes are awesome, they have a super thin band and are really easy to apply. It also came with a Nail Varnish in Swarm.

What are your favourite Illamasqua products?

Spring Makeup: Antique Gold

When it comes to metallics, I am usually a silver tone person. Gold was never really my THANG, though I do wear it every now and then. Lately, for some reason, I have been attracted to antique/neutral golds rather than yellow, brassy, in-your-face sorts of gold tones that I would normally pick. I recently got a nice tunic top from Plastik Wrap that has a cute gold searhorse and tentacle print on it that inspired me to try some gold makeup. I also dug through my jewelry stash for some earrings that I bought to go with a shirt that got wrecked a long time ago. I love when I hold on to an old accesory/piece of clothing and find a new use for it later! I wore this look to go to a casual dinner party at a friend's place.

L'Oreal Colour Infallible eyeshadow in Sahara Treasure, Camo Glam eyeshadow (made by an independent company that I do not believe exists anymore), and MAC Cremesheen Glass in Jet Boy.

Earrings: Local Clothing Store
Top: Plastik Wrap

Random Swatches: Tarte

Spring is here again.......and when spring comes along I get into SPRING CLEANING MODE. Therefore, I am cleaning a bunch of old stuff out of my blogging folder. Today, we shall see some late-to-the party swatches of some Tarte stuff. I believe I bought this stuff in 2013....

Tarte is one of my favourite makeup brands. Their makeup is of excellent quality and their packaging is gorgeous.  Way back when, I bought their Stop and Stare gift set when it was on sale at Sephora. It contained Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara, 2 SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liners, and 3 Skinny SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liners.

The mascara is good for separating lashes but doesn't add much volume. I also found that it flaked off on me, which I do not care for. Also, the little brush bristles were SHARP. If you poke yourself in the eye with this baby, it hurts. (You'd think I would be above doing that by now since I've been wearing enough makeup to choke a horse for the last 10 + years)

From top to bottom: Onyx, Purple Garnet, and Azurite Green.

These I REALLY like, especially Azurite Green. They are PERFECT for fall makeup and they make great liners for when I want a coloured wing on my upper lashline instead of black. The black liner is great for smudging and is highly pigmented. Purple garnet is a brownish plum with gold and purple sparkles in it.

Top to bottom: Rose Gold, Taupe.
They call these eyeliners, but they are really too fat to be used as such. I use them like an eyeshadow pencil or a base for eyshadow. Once again, these are great for fall makeup.

Eye makeup featuring Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara, & Azurite Green, Rose Gold, and Purple Garnet liners.

I also really enjoy the Lipsurgence pencils from Tarte. They come in a wide variety of shades and finishes. They are easy to apply and comfortable to wear.

Top to bottom: Lust, Swank

Are you a fan of the Tarte brand? What are some of your favourite Tarte products?

DISCLAIMER: All items purchased by me in 2013 prior to my NO BUY.
