Korean Skincare: Momomango

Hello THAR. Today I am posting about some Korean skincare products that I have tried. A couple of years ago, I came across the website momomango.com. I have ordered from the website several times and have always had a good experience.  They package all of your stuff with a personal note in the box and include candies and samples which are nice little details.

One of the things I had been wanting to try was BB cream. I have been looking for YEARS for a tinted moisturizer with SPF or something that I can just throw on for the rare days that I don't wear full makeup.

The first one I tried was Skinfood's Good Afternoon Peach Green Tea. It has a nice scent to it which I thought might irritate my skin but it was fine. In fact, it felt very nice on my face, had a great texture, and made my skin seem nicer after I removed it. It even played well with my oily skin. The most glaring problem with it was the tone; it was just not right for my skin colour, it is much too pink. I used it as a facial sunscreen for doing yardwork as it does not clog my pores like a lot of sunscreens do. I would purchase this again if it came in a tone that would work with my skin.

I also tried some Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in No 21. I did not like it at all. It was too thick and almost goopy in texture and did not seem to work with my oily skin. It also was the wrong colour, which seems to be my issue with BB creams; it made my skin look very grey. It also smelled bad so I got rid of it. I also tried out some mini BB creams from Skin79. All of them had irridescent/shimmery ingredients in them so I use them routinely as cream highlighters for my more involved makeup looks (they work very well for this purpose!)

I also tried a few more products from Skin Food. I really liked the Tomato Jelly Lip Tint. It resides in my drawer at work because it is sheer and helps me out when I have dry as hell lips in the winter at work.  I also tried the Fermented Pomegranate Whitening Sleeping Mask. I cannot comment on the whitening aspect as I was not using it for that purpose but it makes a lovely overnight cream for when it is super dry out in the winter. My favourite product that I tried was the Black Sugar cleansing oil. I always thought that a cleansing oil would be bad for someone with mostly oily but sometimes peely-dry skin; however, I find that it removes my makeup really well and does not leave any oily residue. LOVE IT. I would definitely highly recommend trying skincare stuff from Skin Food. The quality you get for the price is AWESOME!

What are your favourite Korean skincare products? Can you recommend a good BB cream or tinted moisturizer with SPF?

*DISCLAIMER: All products purchased by me, all opinions are my own. I linked to the momomango website as I had a good experience with them, not because this is a sponsored review*

Pink Latex

Since it is the weekend, I shall post a clubbing look! It is from awhile back.....I was off this weekend but was feeling slightly under the weather so I did not go out anywhere. I did get some yard work done though!  For this look, I went with the monochromatic approach and matched my eye and lip makeup to my raspberry pink dress. The only time I can get away with pink-toned eyeshadows is when I am doing something more extreme for clubbing as it does not really complement my eye colour. I always love how neat pink eyeshadow looks on people with blue eyes!

Tokyomilk Dark

Tokyomilk Dark is a brand that I have come to love. The packaging is beautiful and everything is of high quality. I have acquired a couple of sample packs from Sephora as well as some of the lip elixers and a rollerball perfume.

Can anyone tell me what "provocative spices" are?
Their Tainted Love scent has notes of dark vanilla bean, sensuous sandalwood, white tea, citrus, tonka bean, provocative spices, and sweet orchid*.  When I wear it, the vanilla bean and tea notes come through the strongest. Since I am not much of a perfume reviewer and suck at describing scents, I am going to keep it simple: IT SMELLS REAL GOOD.

The Everything and Nothing scent has notes of rose, mandarin, tangerine, white jasmine, peony, muguet, amber, and white musk*. In summary, IT SMELLS PRETTY NICE!!

I always enjoy when a perfume comes with a shower gel and/or a body cream. I use these things for daytime outings and reserve heavy perfume application for evenings out.

Can I say I LOVE the lip products? The Get Lucky Lip Tint that came in the little perfume sample tin is SO nice. It is kind of a brownish-neutral colour that I thought I would hate until I saw it on. It is a lovely MLBB type of thing that wears weightlessly and endlessly. It smells and tastes just like old school Trident cinnamon gum. I usually HATE flavoured lip products but I am lovin' them here!

I also am hopelessly hooked on the Lip Elixirs. Upon opening the little tins, I discovered to my initial horror that they are PETROLATUM BASED, just like gross old vaseline for your lips....NOOOO!!! I ended up being pleasantly surprised to find that they are not sticky or greasy, the wear is just lovely. They also smell and taste awesome; the ones I have are No 77 Cherry Bourbon, No 36 Salted Caramel, and my favourite No 18 Clove Cigarette. There is also an Absinthe one which I would like to get my hands on. I actually use these A LOT, they are a lifesaver for me as I get horribly dry lips in the winter and these work wonders! My only complaints are that the tins are hard to open and they are also rather unsanitary as you need to put your fingers or something in there to get product out.

Do you like my whimsical perfume photo? It was taken by accident, I have no idea how it came out like this lol!!
I also have the rollerball (I LOVE ROLLERBALLS!!!) of  the Fate and Fortune Collection Destiny No 79.  It purportedly has notes of midnight jasmine, fresh-cut honeysuckle, rose, and davana*, whatever that is. I feel that IT SMELLS VERY FRESH.

Have you ever tried anything from Tokyomilk Dark? What do you think of their products?

Pastel Makeup

When I first tried out my Galaxy Chic palette, my eyes were initially drawn to the bright colours. After staring at the shiny shadows for awhile, I eventually decided to try out a pastel look for a change. Spring flowers were starting to appear everywhere so it just felt right.

BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.
CHEEKS: MAC Mineralize Blush in Sakura.

Shadows: From the BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic palette: Milky Way, Cosmic, Meteor, Comet, Moon, and Eclipse.
Liners: Geisha Ink, UD Asphyxia.
Mascara: Clinique High Impact Mascara.

On this particular day, I had some boring errands to run and wasn't in the mood for getting too dressed up. However, I HATE looking casual and I HATE wearing sweat pants/yoga pants, etc. in public when I am feeling lazy. I have found a solution to this problem, it is one that my mother has named "the sweat skirt." Simply find a long, flowing, comfortable, preferably elastic-waisted skirt (this sort of thing is in style right now!!) and pair it with a comfortable top other than a t-shirt and you look like you kind of tried but you are just as comfortable as you would be in sweat pants and a t-shirt. For some reason, I find that wearing a skirt tends to make one look dressed up regardless of how comfy it is. AW YEAH. For this look, I wore at tulip skirt from Target and a nice tunic with a keyhole cutout in the back and chiffon cowl by Plastik Wrap. Once again, the tunic is just as comfortable as a t-shirt, but the print and cowl and such give it a bit of style.

BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Palette

My friend gave me the Galaxy Chic eyeshadow palette as one of my Xmas presents along with the Galaxy Chic lipgloss. The palette is full of frosty pastels to play with - perfect for spring! I have also been able to use this palette for work safe looks as well. Here are some swatches!

(sorry, I just wanted an excuse to not only write that sentence but say it out loud to myself)

A pretty neat looking palette if I do say so myself!

From left to right: Eclipse, Sun, Jupiter, Prometheus, Aphrodite, Milky Way, Cosmic, Saturn, Venus, Meteor, Comet, Earth, Neptune, Mercury, Mars, Asteroid, Uranus, Moon.

Hello there, today I thought I would post about some nail stuff that I have been using. Please ignore my dry hands and cuticles, I refuse to wear hand lotion because it feels gross!!! When my hands get really dry in the winter, I will put some cream on them under moisture gloves over night but I CANNOT STAND the feel of lotion on my hands during the day.

For this I used a gel polish with one of those little at home curing lights (I will talk about that in a post later). I also tried to use nail striping tape. I have no fine motor skills so it was HARD!

My friend gave me this kit as a birthday present and I LOVE IT. It is actually very easy to do (I suck at doing nails despite my best efforts!) and it looks really neat; it has a really neat "under glass" sort of look when you put a clear top coat over it.

Base nail polishes are OPI Black Onyx and Sally Hansen Canary Diamond Chrome.

I REALLY love the textured effect of the caviar manicure. Unfortunately it does not last very long. Below is a picture of my nails a couple days later. I would recommend doing something like this for a special event because it looks so cool but not for everyday wear.

Blue nail polish is Revlon Chroma Chameleon Cobalt.

For my wedding last year, I got gel nails. I had them for about 3 months and had them done twice. My second manicure was a french manicure with white tips and a black tip on the ring finger. I really loved them, they never broke or chipped despite me not being careful AT ALL with them. I thought it would be hard to adjust to having them but I actually barely noticed them. You can also get clear ones done so that you can use different nail polishes like on your natural nails. They recommend that you get them filled in every 4 to 6 weeks as they grow out (I would say you could get away with 6 to 8 weeks depending on the person). There are a few bad things about them as well.  First of all, they are EXPENSIVE. It is not as bad to get them filled in, but if you want to change the colour and keep them up it gets rather pricey every 4 to 6 weeks. Also, I HATE going to the spa/getting my hair done/any sort of appointment for beauty-related things because it is SO TIME CONSUMING. Some people like the whole hair appointment/getting your nails done thing, but I just find it to be rather tedious. Also, it is true what they say about it ruining your natural nails. They file them RIGHT DOWN to get the gel to stick. It was pricey to get them removed so I did it myself and accidentally ripped chunks of a couple of my nails off in the process. It took me about 6 months to fully re-grow my nails again. My nails aren't that great to begin with so having thin, brittle nails for 6 months was less than ideal.

Have you ever had gel nails/acrylic nails/fake nails? What did you think of them?

Spring Makeup: Pops of Colour!

Well the weather here is finally starting to get a bit nicer!  <<< That sentence was written yesterday after I spent most of my day outside doing yard work and tending to my garden.
Here's what it looks like in my back yard today:

Okay, I am done. Just needed to get that out of my system.

When the weather gets nicer When I start feeling depressed because it was nice enough to do yard work in a t-shirt yesterday and today it is snowing and killing all of my plants, I like to add pops of colour to my makeup because of all the good energy I get from being able to enjoy the nice weather to cheer myself up and distract myself from the piece of sh*t weather. A few of my favourite things that I have been wearing a lot this spring are Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush, Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencils in lots of bright colours, and OCC Stained Glosses.

OCC Stained Gloss in Jealous, Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Electric, and Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow.

Necklace: Bebe

At the time of writing, even MORE snow has fallen than in the above picture and it continues to fall. Yes, I am Canadian so I shouldn't really be having a fit over snow but it was 17 degrees C outside yesterday, I AM DONE WITH SNOW ALREADY!!

Does the weather suck where you live right now?

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss

Recently I picked up the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics After Dark test tube set as it was on sale at Sephora. I absolutely LOVE their Stained Gloss formulation! You can wear it thick and glossy or you can apply a little bit and let it sink into your lips for a long lasting stain. If you want it looking glossy you have to reapply frequently if you will be eating/drinking coffee/etc. Of note: the tiny brushes that come with these are actually decent unlike a lot of applicators that come in makeup sets!

From left to right: Hedonist, New Wave, Jealous, and Little Black Dress.

Little Black Dress is actually wearable and you can mix it with the other colours if you get the urge. Jealous is my favourite, it is kind of an orange-y, red-ish, pink-ish neon kind of colour. New Wave is bright neon pink of such a tone that I can actually wear. To be quite honest with you, I am kind of afraid to try on Hedonist, I cannot see that working on me. It kind of screams SPRING to me so I will have to try it out one of these days....

Are you a fan of OCC?
