A Comparison of Navy Blue Lipsticks

Recently, even though I am not supposed to be buying any makeup, I was tempted by and gave in to Poe Studded Kiss Lipstick by Kat Von D. It is a gorgeous navy blue shade with a copper sparkle to it (see closeup swatch below). After purchasing it, I decided to compare it to the other navy lipsticks in my collection for your convenience. I hope you find it very helpful when deciding just what shade of navy blue your lips should be sporting when you go to that job interview or family reunion.

On the far left, we see Indigo Bridge by Portland Black Lipstick Company. It has a lovely, metallic finish and black undertones. Therefore, it is PERFECT for that high-pressure job interview! You really look like you mean SRS BUSINESS when you wear this one!

In the middle, we have Illamasqua Disciple. It has a somewhat shiny finish that does not have any sparkle or metallic flair to it. This one would be best for wearing to that big summer family reunion. Everyone who was wondering how you were going to turn out will rest easy when they see you wearing this!

On the far right we have Studded Kiss Lipstick in Poe by Kat Von D. Those purple undertones and copper sparkles are just PERFECT for daily wear. No one will give you the side-eye AT ALL when you are going about your responsible adult errands wearing this beauty!

All sarcasm aside, I am not sure why I need 3 different navy blue lipsticks. One would have probably been sufficient to cover my clubbing/concert wear needs but here we are. Also, in the spirit of full honesty, I may or may not occasionally wear navy blue lipstick when going about my daily errands.

Do you have any navy blue lipsticks from other brands? What are your thoughts on them.?

Melt Cosmetics 6six6

Well hello there! Today I am going to talk about Melt Cosmetics. They have a lovely selection of weird-coloured lipsticks. The first one that caught my eye was the bright blue DGAF but I figured I would get more use out of 6six6 so I bought that one instead (and DGAF tends to be sold out on their website most of the time). I got this lipstick a long time ago and it has served me well, especially for clubbing. It is also a great fall lipstick if you are not afraid of dark colours and you enjoy wearing things that were trendy (i.e. oxblood) like 2 years ago as I am wont to do!

If you were eyeballing any of these, I would recommend going for it and getting one. The quality is excellent, the packaging is nice, and they send you a cute little pocket mirror to put in your tiny clubbing purse! They are a bit pricey but the quality is definitely there and they have colours that you can't quite find anywhere else.

Here is the lipstick in action, this is from something I never posted as my makeup photos did not turn out and my outfit photo didn't either - note the dreaded static cling that always plagues me! My skirt ruffles are stuck to the inside of my knee -FAIL! Also my hair was SO full of static with flyaways everywhere, it was just not my day!

In other news, I was listed upon Black Rose UK's 15 Unrivalled Goth Fashion Blogs of 2015! That was very nice of them to do considering that my outfit photos are constantly plagued by static-cling, marginal photography skills, resting bitch face, awkward posing, weird red-eye photo editing, and staring into space!  Do check out their list, there are many other excellent bloggers listed that I have followed and admired for quite some time!

Worksafe Monday

As I have said before, I had to learn to dress in a more conservative style due to my job. At first, I felt rather uncomfortable in my work wear but over the years, I have come to enjoy making outfits that are work-appropriate yet still have a bit of my own style in them.
One thing that I have and always will be attracted to is ANIMAL PRINT. If I can find something leopard-print that I can wear to work, I'm a happy lady because this means I will usually like it enough to wear it outside of work as well! I love having pieces that can cross over from my work wardrobe into my daywalking wardrobe.
The outfit below is something I wear to work; I like the flowy-ness of the skirt and the leopard print enough that I also wear it when I need something comfortable to run summer errands like going to the greenhouse! The shirt is great for hot days as well as it is open in the back!

I found this old bracelet while digging through my accessories. The earrings were obtained from an alternative craft fair that I went to with my friend when visiting my home city. They are made out of wood......the lady who made them informed me that they are full of good energy because they are made of wood she found AT THE BOTTOM OF A STREAM. Apparently, this is very important. The lipstick I was wearing is MAC Summer Shower, which shows up as sheer, shiny, iridescence on the lips.

Shoes: Walmart

Ooooh! I am suffering from particularly poor picture quality today! Lame! Also, maybe I could paint my freakin' toenails since it is summer up in here!

I was particularly pleased to find these shoes! I was eyeballing a very similar pair that was quite expensive, I found these at WM for $25! Usually when I buy inexpensive shoes I regret it as they often end up being hugely uncomfortable......for some reason, these are super comfortable! I have trouble finding shoes that are comfortable to walk in yet are not too hot for summer so these are just great. For the price, it won't be the end of the world if I wreck them from walking around in them all the time either.

Have you found any good deals lately?

80's Prom

I have previously mentioned my propensity for attending the local 80's dance nights such that I can crimp my hair and dance to Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark. The last one I went to had an 80's prom theme. I decided to get some sweet huge glasses and I attempted to feather my bangs (good times). I also put on as much coloured eyeshadow as possible and made my husband wear a multi-coloured cumberbund (not pictured for the sake of his dignity, lol).

FACE: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC15, and MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15.
BROWS: MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud.

I am stuck at work this weekend and I have kind of been feeling like crap lately. BLARGH.
What are you up to this weekend?

Portland Black Lipstick Company

This is kind of a late review but the products are really good so I figured I would post it anyway! A LONG time ago, I ordered some stuff from Portland Black Lipstick Company. If you are looking for some more interesting lip colours that are independently made and highly pigmented, I would highly recommend them! Their packaging and shipping materials are also quite nice.

They also provided some samples with my order; the samples are large enough to use many times so I quite appreciated that!

From left to right:Coffee, Black, Chaiborg, Bad Penny, Artificial Amethyst, Metallurgy, Indigo Bridge, Blood Red, Black Lagoon, Black.
As you can see, the pigmentation is just excellent. The formulation of all of them is really nice as well, they apply nicely and are long wearing. Again, I would recommend giving them a try if you are looking for something different for your lip wardrobe!

Have you tried this company? Which colours do you have?

Flow-y Chiffon

Summer is almost here! That means it's time for my least favourite fashion season. I really do not like a lot of summer clothing and I always have difficulty putting together outfits for hot weather. My wardrobe has been lacking in the summer wear department as shorts, flip-flops, and light colours are not really my bag, baby. Short bottoms and strappy tops that you can't wear a bra with are just NOT flattering on me.
Thankfully, this year's summer styles are right up my alley! Long skirts, maxi dresses, and flowing black chiffon offerings are available everywhere!! YES! My summer wardrobe has grown quite a bit recently. I am especially fond of all the long, flowing stuff; I LOVE when clothing has MOVEMENT when you walk around! LONG LIVE LONG SKIRTS!! Also, I do not care for flat sandals and flip-flops and such, but CHUNKY, platform, sandals are in right now, hallelujah!

Earrings: Buffalo David Bitton
Sunglasses: Le Chateau (I've had these for like, 10 years!)
Necklace: Aldo Accessories
Top: Lip Service
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell Ramen Chain

What are your summer wardrobe staples??
