The Side-Eye Scarf Cape

Hello thar......I hope everyone is enjoying "the most wonderful time of the year". Last fall, I acquired a blanket scarf because I was highly attracted to the colour....unfortunately, I wasn't really sure how to style it. Being that I am always late to the party and not up with the times, I had only accessorized with smaller scarves in the past.  The first thing I thought to do with it was to use it as a poncho/cape sort of thing but I couldn't get it to stay in place......then I remembered a brooch that I hadn't figured out how to wear yet which did the trick! I was inspired to try adding brooches to my accessories wardrobe by Coffin Kitsch; I have always enjoyed how she uses pins and brooches in her outfits.
As far as the side-eye factor goes, this outfit ranks pretty high. It seems that people did not appreciate my cape idea (or maybe it was the lipstick?) Good thing I have no shame. I have since determined that it looks chic as f*** to wear a blanket scarf with an open-front coat and thus I am on the hunt for such a coat. Up here in Canada it is too cold for most of the winter to wear such a thing but in spring and fall it should do nicely.

Earrings: Catherinette Rings, Brooch: Zara, MAC Coygirl Blush and Kling It On lipstick.

Brooch and Scarf and Skirt: Zara
Boots: Steve Madden

Hope everyone has a great day! I am off to the kitchen to bake apple pies for Xmas.

How would you style a blanket scarf?

Slipknot Concert

Last fall, I heard that Slipknot would be coming to town........to be quite honest with you, I was surprised that they were still around. I have vague memories of listening to their CD's whilst angrily ripping holes in my tights or something when I was in high school. A friend of mine had an extra ticket as her boyfriend was too embarrassed to be seen at a Slipknot concert so I decided, what the hell, let's go and relive my angry teenager days. My husband was too embarrassed to go as well; I, however, have no shame.
Getting old is certainly a weird process. If I would have gone to one of their shows 15 years ago I would have been crowd surfing through the mosh pit. These days I'm sitting in the stands and hoping the concert doesn't end too late as I have to get up for work at 5:30 am the next day.  Oh, how times have changed.

MAC Coygirl Blush, Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick in Oh My Goth, UD Naked Smoky palette, Earrings: H&M.

Belt: found in the depths of my closet
Top: Guess
Skirt: It is ugly, I think I will get rid of it.
Cuff: My husband made it from an old belt like a hundred years ago
Boots: Brown's Shoes

I don't really like how my outfit turned out. I had some kind of faux leather theme in mind, there is just too much faux leather going on. I need to mix it up next time.

I was surprised to hear that they actually sounded pretty good live after all these years. They had a decent stage show and pyrotechnics and stuff so I was fairly amused. I do wish I would have seen them when I was still in high school, this concert made me feel OLD. I had no idea that people still listened to Slipknot anymore. In summary, it got me out of the house in something other than work clothes for once and there was fire and sh*t but I left pondering my own mortality as I was reminded of my rapidly advancing age.

Interesting fact courtesy of The Mutant Stomp Friends: One can purchase Slipknot t-shirts at Urban Outfitters these days. Hmm. I think they are trying to cash in on the nostalgia thing. I don't know why but in the past couple of years I have been feeling quite nostalgic. Maybe it's because you truly start feeling old when you enter your 30's.....or maybe it's just when you start to realize how f***ed up the world truly is.......maybe it's because it's really freakin' weird to see the young people wearing stuff that you already wore back in the day.......maybe I'm just losing my mind, who knows.

Did you know Slipknot was still around? Been to any good concerts lately?

Cyber Monday

As per usual, I shall post a cyber goth outfit for Cyber Monday. I do not care that cyber goth has not been cool since approximately 2002, I still have a huge soft spot for it. I wore this outfit to go see a Juno Reactor DJ set which I thoroughly enjoyed.

MAC Lip Pencil in Cyber World, MAC Lipstick in Cyber, Sugarpill Tiara, Hair flowers made by my friend, Necklace by Dominic Elvin Designs.
(I look really crabby but I'm not, it's just lack of sleep/resting b*tch face)

Theca Dress: Zoetica Ebb
Tights that have a seam down the front that you can see through my dress which I find rather irritating: H & M
Boots: Demonia

The dress looks way cooler in person, the camera flash makes it look like it is not black BUT IT IS. I didn't have much time to get dressed for this and I don't feel I did the dress justice....I will have to try to make a better outfit for it next time.
Kudos to the lady who designed this dress. Despite the fact that it is VERY form-fitting, it is cut in such a way that it is still somewhat flattering if you are not particularly svelte which is NOT always the case with very tight things.

Black Friday

Ah, 'tis Black Friday, the dreaded day when people camp outside of stores to get cheap TV's or something. Upon this day, I would like to take a moment to extol the virtues of BLACK. In terms of clothing and style, you can't go wrong with black in my opinion. I get the most use out of my all-black clothing because it never really goes out of style and you can wear it in so many different ways. If you get a black pair of shoes or boots, you can wear them with almost anything. While we all have colours that look good on us and colours that wash us out, black looks good on pretty much everyone. You can look goth-y, classy, trendy, or conservative in black. In summary, black is the sh*t.

Today's outfit was worn to a club night. It is an outfit that gets a lot of wear because it is a great foundation for accessorizing. When you start with an all black ensemble, you can wear different jewellery, makeup, and shoes and it instantly becomes something new every time you wear it! For this particular evening, I went with a peacock theme. I painted my nails in a "skittles" manicure with blues, teals, and gold. I also did some blue, teal, and gold eye makeup which was fairly elaborate but I couldn't photograph it for the life of me. I wore Kat Von D Poe lipstick (which is fantastic) with MAC No Interruptions overtop. I had a peacock feather hair clip and earrings to complete the look.

A whole lot of makeup, some of it made by me.

Hair Clip: Made by me
Earrings: Made by my friend
Necklace; From an alternative craft fair
Dress: Polymorphe
Corset: Ooh La Latex
Armwarmers: Nimues Latex

Woven Scarf

I must say, we are having some weird weather where I live right now! It has only snowed, like, twice so far this winter and I can still see my lawn.....it is still green. WEIRD. Usually, we're balls deep in the white stuff by now.........NOT that I'm complaining as snow makes my drive to work a complete sh*t show and limits the shoes that I can wear. This outfit was the first thing I wore this year when it was finally cold enough to wear tights. I wore my hand woven scarf by threefold designs and accessorized it with some old kilt pins I had from back in the day. I also wore but one dangly earring.....didn't I read somewhere that asymmetrical ear jewellery was a trend? I'm SO trendy and up with the times I broke the other earring and just said "f*** it" and wore the one I had already put on anyway. I found an old faux leather mini skirt in my closet which I hadn't worn for a long time because mini skirts are not the most flattering length on me and you can see the outline of the pockets through the faux leather which drives me NUTS. I think I shall just cut the pockets out as I don't use them anyway.

Bracelet: Alex + Ani, kilt pins: taken off an old skirt I wore in high school, Earring: Le Chateau, Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Motorhead.

Scarf: threefold designs
Top: Dex
Skirt: Le Chateau Outlet
Tights: H&M
Boots: Guess

How's the weather in your neck of the woods? Is it cramping your style?

Galaxy Leggings

So......yeah. How about those U.S. election results??? I don't even know what to say about the kind of f*cketry that is going on in the world these days........I think I will just curl up in a corner and continue to distract myself with makeup and clothes or something.......

Today's outfit was worn to a play one of those group breakout/escape games. I really suck at them but they are pretty fun! I was fairly overdressed to do such a thing but I am always overdressed so whatever.

Some fake eyelashes, MAC Rebel Lipstick, MAC Dazzleglass in Funtabulous, some Urban Decay eyeliners, a bunch of other crap.

Nerd Lacquer Cold and Calculating, Orly Purple Crush.

I was feeling ambitious and attempted to do my hair nicely. Do you ever look at Pinterest fails?

That is pretty much how it goes with me and hairstyles. I cannot do hair for the life of me but BY GOD I TRY!!

What I was going for.
What I ended up with.
GOOD LORD. Well, at least it looked okay from far away....sort of?

Earrings: Lemantula Designs
Top: H&M
Dress and Leggings: Black Milk
Necklace: Guess
Shoes: YES

Have you ever been to a breakout/escape room? Did you escape in time?

Happy Halloween!

Here is a picture of our costumes from last year. My husband and I went as vikings.

We made most of the parts of our costumes ourselves using upholstery fabric we found on sale, faux leather craft lacing, and fake fur.

This year I was involved in an 8-person Austin Powers group costume.

Did you dress up this year?

Angels and Demons

It is almost Halloween! Hooray! I am supposed to be going to an early Halloween party tonight but I am currently experiencing a case of  general malaise/headache/nausea for some reason so I may not make it out :( BLARHG. Anyway, here is an outfit from an "angels and demons" themed party I attended at some point. I wore one of my club outfits with some wings from the Halloween store; my husband also wore a club outfit and added some little demon horns to his head with spirit gum.

MAC Smoked Purple lipstick, Urban Decay moondust eyshadow in Solstice, Fyrinnae Blush in Seduce, MPZ Blush in LSD, Silk Naturals eyeshadow in Sugar Plum Fairy, Femme Fatale eyeshadows in Dispersion and The Nightmare, Sugarpill Lumi, Spellbound By Jinx Phantom Zone, Annabelle Glitterama liquid eyeliners, UD 24/7 Liners in Ransom and Psychedelic Sister, earrings made by my friend, necklace from local corset store.

My friend made the two hair flowers on the top of this picture.

Dress: Polymorphe
Shoes: Flynn by Gold Dot

Are you excited for Halloween? I am! I suppose I should get my sh*t together and finish my costume one of these days......

Black Zippers

BLARGH it's Monday. I have the day off so I guess it's not so bad! Today's outfit features one of my favourite things: ZIPPERS. When I was in high school, I used to buy second hand plaid skirts and pants and sew zippers all over them. These days, I am forced to dress like an "adult" most of the time but I am still attracted to things with zippers. The outfit below consists of a top and a skirt; the top gets a lot of wear but I don't often wear the skirt. Due to the placement and curve of the zippers, it is kind of unflattering on the area of the hips and thighs. AH WELL. I wore this to go see a performance at the Fringe Festival earlier this year. I almost never go to things like that as I am not really into theatre but they had a group doing improvised Star Trek called The Red Shirt Diaries so I kind of had to see that. It was hilarious!

Earrings: Le Chateau, Necklace: Made by me, Kat Von D Wonderchilde Studded Kiss Lipstick, Cuff: Le Chateau

Top and Skirt: Zara
Tights: Local corset store
Boots: Guess

Guess Lehana
DANG, I love these boots! They have a heel but they are comfortable AF and I wear them all the time.

Well, it is October 17th and I have not made my Halloween costume yet. I also need to do my half-assed workout and go grocery shopping.....I shall be making spaghetti squash and zucchini pasta with homemade sundried tomato and basil pesto for supper! There is also a pile of clothing and jewellery that need to be repaired.....I suppose I should quit sitting on my ass drinking coffee with my cats and get some sh*t done!

What are you up to on this fine Monday?

My Favourite Outfit

This outfit was my favourite thing to wear all summer. It is black, it is ventilated, and it is comfortable.  I didn't get a good picture of my skirt; it is a short skirt with a longer laser-cut overlay. The top is a crop top with long panels that hang down......to my great amusement I discovered these are called "car wash flaps." When I wear it I have to repress the urge to twirl maniacally along the side of parked cars......especially my husband's car......he would seriously kill me if I did that!
I think I will carry all of these clothing pieces over for fall outfits.....if I add a blazer, some tights, and some boots I should be good to go!

Cuff: Guess, MAC Berry Black Friday, Necklace and Earrings: Made by me.

Top: Le Chateau
Fishnet Socks: From my mom
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

As I look out the window this morning, all I see is SNOW. We had one of those crappy years where it pretty much went from being boiling hot to SNOW. There haven't been many good cool fall days for outfits......now I am pretty much stuck hiding all my clothes under my winter coat! LAME.
Is it snowing yet where you are?

Garden Tour + Gratuitous Garden Photos

Well, it is pretty much the end of the gardening season. Lots of my plants are still alive as we can have some fairly mild weather around here in October but it is getting colder and colder out each day. There is no more yardwork to be done; it is time to figure out what died/went wrong this year and plan for next year. Earlier this summer, since I am apparently as exciting as an 80-year old, I went on my city's annual garden tour. Basically, they give you a map and you drive around to see the fancy gardens that were selected for the tour. WOW, some people put some MAJOR work into their gardens! It was really neat to see other people's ideas and creativity when it comes to plants. When I am retired, my goal is to have a garden fancy enough for the garden tour!

Earrings and Necklace: DeUno

TOP and SKIRT: Express

(Please pardon the lack of cropping, especially since my husband can't seem to get out of the freakin' way when I am taking plant pictures. My phone would not let me transfer photos to my computer so I could fix them up properly.)

I finally got a gargoyle for my garden (see above). Also, I grew a prickly pear cactus! I was quite excited about this until a few weeks ago when I found it to be DEAD!! It appeared to have rotted due to excess moisture....I was quite ticked off as I even used special draining cactus soil and DID NOT put a drop of water on the thing all summer. My husband determined the cause of death.....apparently my neighbour's downspout drains right down the side of his lawn and pools RIGHT behind my little cactus bed. I did not realize this. DAMN. (Note that this person did not mean to do this, it just happens to be how his yard drains and it was particularly rainy at the end of this summer).

Another gardening fail: I killed almost everything in the purple and silver-themed pot below. That's what you get when you put full shade begonias in the sun. I will have to redesign this container for next year.

We had a vegetable garden this year for the first time. It went pretty well but I will make some changes so things will be more efficient next year. My husband made the raised garden beds out of the pieces of our old fence (some impaired idiot had a car accident and the front end of his vehicle blew through our fence a few years ago). We had kale, lettuce, and swiss chard for salads all summer as well as carrots, radishes, strawberries, chives, basil, green peppers, peas, jalapeno peppers, and habanero peppers.

We got a lot of tomatoes so I made big batches of salsa to freeze. I also used jalapeno and habanero peppers from the garden for this.

Because we had so many green tomatoes at the end of the season, I decided to pickle them. My grandma used to make them when I was a kid and I LOVED them. I haven't had them for YEARS, we shall see if these turned out. I used fresh dill heads and habaneros from the garden to make these.

We also got a pumpkin to grow! It is being stubborn and will not turn orange but I am going to carve it anyway, what the hell.

Did you do any gardening this year? Have you ever tried pickled green tomatoes?

This year, I have been seeing a lot of hamsa/evil eye jewellery. I started noticing it as my mom said she liked it..........turns out I do to! The pieces that I found below were inexpensive and they go well with many different outfits.

MAC Berry Black Friday, Bracelet and Earrings: Curiology Jewellery, Necklace: Simon's, Rosary Necklace: H&M.

Sunglasses: Guess
Top and Skirt: H & M
Sandals: Jeffrey Campbell
Boots: Guess

On the first outfit picture, it appears that there was a fuzz on the camera lens or something......OR MAYBE IT IS SPIRIT ENERGY. This picture reminded me of back in the day when my sister and I were kids and used to watch TV together after school. One of the shows we watched was called The Unexplained and I remember an episode about ghostly images and weird things showing up in photographs. There were people who truly believed that ghosts and spiritual energies were being captured in their photos when really they just accidentally double exposed their film or the flash reflected off of something in a strange way. I just googled "paranormal photographs" and there are a lot of  people who still think they can photograph ghosts. I personally don't believe in this sort of thing but I remember I was pretty freaked out by the show at the time.

Do you believe that paranormal apparitions can be caught on film?
Are you old enough to have had a film camera and if so did you ever accidentally double expose your film?

Super Soft Birthday

Hello thar! WOOOHOOO it is finally fall!! I need to get these summer outfits out of my folders so I can move on to my favourite clothing season!!

Here is an outfit I wore to a friend's birthday party. The theme of the party was taken from my new favourite show Letterkenny. Each year, the guys on the show have a "super soft birthday" for their friend featuring cupcakes, sprinkles, party hats, and various pink things. I wanted to wear something kind of frilly or pink to match the theme; however, I don't really own anything frilly or pink so I did my best.  The peplum top has a sort of frill or something and I put some flowers in my hair and wore a heart necklace......that is about as soft as I get.

MAC Lipgelee in Shift to Pink, MAC eyeshadows in Parfait Amour and Beautiful Iris, MAC Mineralize Blush in Sakura, NARS Blush in New Order, random hair flowers, random flower bracelet, Bunny Paige Necklace, Hillberg and Berk earrings.

Top: Suzy Shier
Skirt: Dex
Shoes: Guess

Letterkenny is the funniest show I have seen in a long time. It vaguely reminds me of my other old favourite Trailer Park Boys.

The super soft birthday party
Anyone else out there ever watch Letterkenny or Trailer Park Boys? They are both Canadian shows so I wonder if people from elsewhere have ever seen them.
