Waxing Poetic about Shopping

Oh, how I love to wear black things with other black things. It never gets old and it is idiot-proof. I wore this outfit to go boxing week sale shopping. Usually, I avoid shopping in the stores at that particular time of year as it is usually a sh*t show. The 2015 boxing week sales were no different than years past; there were lineups aplenty, scads of people, and sparse and chaotic clothing racks.  I dragged myself through the crowds in a fruitless search for a good deal, cursing myself for thinking that a shopping trip at this time of the year was a good idea. But suddenly, through the disgruntled masses, it caught my attention: a little red sticker stuck to a price tag on an item that I had been eyeballing for quite some time. Could it be? An expensive designer item that I wanted was actually on sale?
Upon one of the purse display shelves in a department store I frequent sat a studded leather clutch by one of my favourite designers. I had seen it sitting there for several months. I was looking for a new black "bar purse" for quite some time since the one I often used for going out was purchased over 10 years ago and was starting to look dated and ratty. On many a shopping trip, I had picked it up and pretended that I was fancy enough to have it. Unfortunately, it was quite pricey so it always went back to its shelf.
Today, however, something was different. That little red sticker on the price tag led me to the purse like a lighthouse brings a ship to port. Was it truly on sale? OH YES IT WAS! Not only was it on sale, but it was STEEPLY discounted. I decided that the little leather purse was coming home with me that day and it has been serving me well ever since! SCORE!

Casual Friday: Jeans

Jeans: for many, they are a beloved staple and the foundation of a wardrobe. They can be casual or dressy; they have somehow convinced us as a society that blue is a neutral. Many wear them each and every day. I am not really a huge fan of them myself as I prefer to wear skirts most of the time. I do not enjoy dressing in a casual manner and I find that skirts are more flattering to my body type and fit me better. However, sometimes a skirt is not convenient to wear and jeans can be worn with a lot of different things so I do get a fair bit of use out of mine. I prefer to style my jeans with a blazer/cropped jacket and a pair of boots or a nice top and cute shoes.

Several people that I know have a veritable collection of jeans in their closet. I have 3 pairs: a distressed black skinny jean with metal and leather details on the pockets, a black stretch denim skinny jean, and a stretch denim skinny jean that is camouflage print. I have a love/hate relationship with my distressed pair of jeans. They are a low-rise which does not work on my body type AT ALL (falling down all the time, "gaping" in the back when you bend over, sitting in the wrong spot) but they were so lovely and I never see jeans that I actually like so I got them anyway. The aforementioned issues are solved by wearing a long, loose, shirt over them but they are ANNOYING AS HELL so I don't wear them often as I don't enjoy having to continually pull them up.

I am not entirely sure why I have sunglasses on in the house or where my right arm is going.

My other pair of jeans are just plain black and can be worn with just about anything so I keep them around. There is also some nice lace detailing on the back pockets which I like. These jeans are a medium rise which works much better for my body type and they actually stay in place while I am wearing them. I find they work well for "transitional" outfits for those times when the weather isn't hot or cold but in-between.
