Casual Friday: Jeans

Jeans: for many, they are a beloved staple and the foundation of a wardrobe. They can be casual or dressy; they have somehow convinced us as a society that blue is a neutral. Many wear them each and every day. I am not really a huge fan of them myself as I prefer to wear skirts most of the time. I do not enjoy dressing in a casual manner and I find that skirts are more flattering to my body type and fit me better. However, sometimes a skirt is not convenient to wear and jeans can be worn with a lot of different things so I do get a fair bit of use out of mine. I prefer to style my jeans with a blazer/cropped jacket and a pair of boots or a nice top and cute shoes.

Several people that I know have a veritable collection of jeans in their closet. I have 3 pairs: a distressed black skinny jean with metal and leather details on the pockets, a black stretch denim skinny jean, and a stretch denim skinny jean that is camouflage print. I have a love/hate relationship with my distressed pair of jeans. They are a low-rise which does not work on my body type AT ALL (falling down all the time, "gaping" in the back when you bend over, sitting in the wrong spot) but they were so lovely and I never see jeans that I actually like so I got them anyway. The aforementioned issues are solved by wearing a long, loose, shirt over them but they are ANNOYING AS HELL so I don't wear them often as I don't enjoy having to continually pull them up.

I am not entirely sure why I have sunglasses on in the house or where my right arm is going.

My other pair of jeans are just plain black and can be worn with just about anything so I keep them around. There is also some nice lace detailing on the back pockets which I like. These jeans are a medium rise which works much better for my body type and they actually stay in place while I am wearing them. I find they work well for "transitional" outfits for those times when the weather isn't hot or cold but in-between.

Do you like to wear jeans? How do you prefer to style them?

  1. Oo-la-la! You look marvelous in these photos! I have a love-hate relationship with modern jeans. They cut them too low and too snug in the upper thigh area. HOWEVER, I ordered a pair of 40s retro-styled, high waisted jeans from Freddie's of Pinewood when I originally lost my weight and WOW! I love them. I have to lose some weight to fit into them again, but there's something about that high-waist and the cuffed legs that I adore. :)

  2. Don't know how you manage to pull off distressed jeans in such a chic way... I always look too METAL!! in them. Stopped buying them. I've got a white pair, and 2 black pairs, one distressed . Gray jeans are my favorite for work.

  3. I just bought my first pair of jeans in 5 years. Whilst they are easy to just throw in with a t-shirt I have the same problems with finding ones I like for my body type and them sliding down all the time. Nice out fit pictures, and that black leather top is soooooo lovely!

  4. I love both of these outfits.. that peplum top is amazing and I love these jeans :D
I do like wearing jeans but I do not own a pair of blue jeans.. I have only black ones cause I find that they look the best with my body shape :)
I absolutely HATE buying jeans though.. the struggle is real ;)
I have found a style that I like though but it seems that the whole town I live in has found that same style too cause whenever I want to buy a pair my size is sold out ;)
HOW in the world can someone hate that jacket?? It´s amazing and those Jessica Simpson shoes are just too darn stunning :D

  5. Oh, you look great in these, but I do know what you mean; jeans dont fit my body type either...I feel frumpy in pants, but to be honest, they're just too comfy and convenient, plus - unlike skirts - they can ba worn with low heel boots and sneakers too...:)
