Baylor

For some reason, I have been feeling rather nostalgic about clothing lately and this has influenced many of my purchases. In the fall there was a heeled-hiking boot sort of trend happening and when I saw the shoes pictured below I had to have them even though they would not be something I would usually go for.

JEFFREY CAMPBELL BAYLOR

When I laid eyes upon these, they reminded me of outfit shopping for back to school when I was a kid. I can't remember how old I was specifically but I recall that when the summer break was over, my mom and grandmother would take the kids shopping and we were usually allowed to get a new outfit for back to school. I distinctly remember being allowed to put together my own outfit one year and I just felt like a million bucks in it. I believe it was the early 90's and I was in grade school; I picked out a pair of green jeans, a waffle-material top that was a lighter shade of green, a silver necklace with a leather cord, and a pair of hiking boots that looked exactly like the ones pictured above (minus the heel). Even though my taste was (and still is) questionable (green jeans???!?!?), I felt like I was just stylin'. I love the way a good outfit makes you feel and these shoes reminded me of that feeling. I have been wearing them a LOT despite the fact that 90% of the time I would usually wear a black shoe. They are comfortable enough for walking in and are a nice, refreshing addition to my wardrobe.
Thankfully, I am not feeling nostalgic enough to go out and purchase a pair of green jeans.* That's where I draw the line.

AWKWARD POSE TO SHOW OFF MY NEW SHOES

Top: Dex
Skirt: Zara

The above outfit was worn to a casual dinner with friends. It consists of a top and skirt that I wear all the time (they have probably been on here before).  I add different shoes and accessories and it's like I have a whole different outfit!

Do you remember any of your favourite outfits or items of clothing from when you were a kid?

*No offense to you if you happen to sport green jeans. They're just not my bag, baby.

  1. I had a pair of hiking boots like that but black... And then I got one in dark brown. I wanted to look like a hiker or paleontologist or other adventurer. So I wore a lot of cargo pants and vests and those hiking boots. Your look is making me miss them. They were super comfortable. My mom got me a pair of oil slick green iridescent doc martins which I'd kill to have now. Well I don't know... The blisters were pretty terrible.

  2. Ialso ahd the low boots (without the heels) in my teenage years! Wore them with pride until the fell apart... Oh, how well they combined with tartan flanel shirts *sigh*

  4. I have some TOMS booties that sort of look like this. I think they're all the rage now so I'm finally trendy, HAHAHA. I agree - having a great outfit on can really boost my confidence and make me feel like BOOM. I think I was much tamer in dress back in high school, though, and wore a lot of solid colors and black. Making up for it now!
