A New Addition

I am pleased to announce that I have a new addition to my household! My husband and I adopted a kitten recently. After my beloved cat Twiggy died in February 2015, our other cat Captain James T. Kirk seemed to have some trouble adjusting as he had been with Twig since he was a kitten. However, cats are territorial creatures and we were not sure if it was a good idea to introduce another feline into the household.
We had been watching the Humane Society's website for some kittens under 6 months old as it is usually easier to introduce a kitten to an established household cat. We spotted two brothers who were 4 months old and kind of made a snap decision to go to the shelter to look at them. My husband wanted to adopt both; I felt it was not the best idea to try to get James used to 2 kittens at once. I also felt that if we were outnumbered by cats our household would slowly descend into chaos and anarchy. ANYWAY, when we got to the shelter one of the brothers had already been adopted. A volunteer was walking around with the other brother and asked if I wanted to hold him. I pretty much couldn't just leave him there after that so the decision was made.
We named him Floki......does anyone else watch Vikings? I personally feel it is the best show ever.

Below is a photo of cats being cats......"I will tolerate your presence but I shall not look at you."

It is really hard to get a good photo of him, he's very active! James is tolerating him quite well for some reason. I am surprised at his good behaviour; the two of them are playing together at this point but James is still kind of in the"WTF did you guys bring home???" phase.

Anyway, here's a random outfit.

Wardrobe Workhorse

Earlier this fall, I added a very comfortable khaki green skirt to my wardrobe. I found it while I was grocery shopping and got distracted by the clothing department. It was inexpensive and has become a real workhorse in my wardrobe; it pairs easily with a lot of my black tops and it can be worn with tights for colder weather and on its own for warmer days. I have worn it to run casual errands/for casual outings, to work, and with some of my alternative accessories as well. I love having pieces that I can wear throughout the seasons and style in different ways!

THE EQUIPMENT

Catrice Yellow Submagreen palette, UD 24/7 Liners in Mildew and Stash, MAC Firm Form Lipstick, Estee Lauder Cyber Eyes in Cyber Green.

THE OUTFIT

Necklace: From the local goth store
Top: H&M
Skirt: Joe Fresh
Boots: Steve Madden

For the above outfit I was trying to keep things casual as I had various boring adult errands to run. I even wore my "fast shoes" as I call them......they are one of VERY FEW flat shoes that I will wear. However, my gear necklace caught my eye and then I decided I needed some weird lipstick.....why the hell not?  YOLO, as people way younger than me would say.

MORE EQUIPMENT

Cuff that my mother gave to me, Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Crayon in Brooklyn, earrings that I made, Alexis Bittar Liquid Spear necklace.
'NOTHER OUTFIT

Top: DKNY
Boots: Le Chateau

This outfit makes me look like at LEAST a semi-functional adult so it could be worn to work. It also works well for going out for lunch or coffee. I like to have outfits in which all my metals, including those in my shoes, match. This outfit has a gunmetal theme.

Monochrome

Ah, 'tis Sunday, the most boring day of the week. Alas, I was stuck at work most of the day but got home in time for a walk outside to enjoy some nice weather. When I am feeling kind of boring I like to keep things simple by wearing all black with shades of grey. A monochrome outfit paired with neutral makeup and clear black lip gloss is a perfect ensemble to wear for an evening at a casual pub.

THE EQUIPMENT

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss Test Tube in Little Black Dress, Hillberg and Berk earrings, Bunny Paige Necklace, scarf from Le Chateau.
THE OUTFIT

Top: Dex
Skirt: Zara
Jacket: Le Chateau

When I wear a rather minimalist outfit, I like to keep things interesting with a bold pair of shoes.

SHOE

Thank you to those who helped me figure out what type of pants I had on in a previous post :)
(A pair of jogging trousers with a slight drop crotch...say "drop crotch"out loud a few times and try to keep a straight face.....if you can, your maturity level far exceeds mine!)

Happy Easter to those who celebrate! Here is some Easter humour for you (thanks to my sister for sending this link to me today!)

Spring Coat and Fringe Scarf

Apparently, it is spring. You wouldn't notice that here because everything is covered in snow. Because of this, I am still in fall/winter outfit mode and not at all ready for spring colours.  Last year I got a new spring/fall jacket that I really like and wear a lot. It is military-style, olive green, and has black faux leather which are three of my favourite things! It has a neat draped piece of fabric in the front that would NOT stay that way so I hand-sewed some snap buttons on to hold it in place. It pairs well with boots and looks good open over all-black outfits.

ACCESSORIES

JACKET

For Xmas, my friend knitted me a really cool cowl-neck fringe scarf. It swooshes around when I walk so I have a lot of fun wearing it. Previously I was wearing it with my all black winter coat but I found it has more impact when I wear it with a coloured coat so you can really see all the fringes! It will help keep me warm until spring weather finally makes an appearance.

What's in a name?

What's in a name? That which we call a pair of pants
By any other name would be.....a pair of pants

I don't usually like wearing pants but when I found this loudly-printed olive green pair that I am wearing below, I fell in love. They are kind of baggy and different than any pair of pants I have owned before. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out here; I am not sure what this style of pants is called and it is driving me NUTS for some reason!!

EQUIPMENT

Catrice Yellow Submagreen quad, Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer, Tokyomilk Dark Get Lucky Lip Tint, UD 24/7 Liners in  Mildew and Stash, Camo Glam eyeshadow by a company that appears to not exist anymore.

Spring and Fall Staples: The Goncho

We had a very mild winter where I live this year and it is starting to get nice out! It is perfect poncho weather; I had been looking for a good poncho for years and now they are EVERYWHERE! They are great for me as I love clothing with movement; I often read about how texture/pattern/etc. can add interest to an outfit......for me clothing that moves and flows when a person walks always catches my eye. They are also great because they're comfortable and easy to wear with a wide variety of outfits.

The Lip Service cowl-neck-poncho-sweater thing below was dubbed a "goncho" by a friend of mine (a contraction of the words goth and poncho).

Casual Friday: Lime Green & Bats

Whilst cleaning out my closet awhile ago, I came upon this lime green sweater with bats that I forgot I had.  I wore it to a motorcycle show that my husband dragged me to. I decided to get out some colourful eyeshadows since I have been drowning in a sea of worksafe neutrals lately.

The Side-Eye Jacket

One of my favourite items of clothing is the faux-leather cropped jacket. They are such a versatile wardrobe component; one can wear them as outerwear in mild weather or use them as a blazer-like piece to complete an outfit. They can take a summer outfit and turn it into a fall outfit. My black cropped jackets get a TON of wear.
I have always been attracted to COLOURED faux leather cropped jackets in particular but only have one of them as they are harder to match with outfits. The one I have is bright red and has a slight shoulder pad which does nothing but make me look top heavy as I am broad-shouldered, large chested, and fat-armed.  None of these facts stops me from wearing shoulder pads because I LOVE THEM!!!! DAMN YOU SHOULDER PADS!! YOU DO NOT FLATTER ME YET I MUST HAVE YOU!! Anyway, I love adding my red jacket to a basic black outfit; it becomes instantly eye-catching........though apparently not in a good way.
Now, if you have been reading this blog for quite some time, you know that I sometimes dress in an unconventional manner. I have piercings and tattoos and I am not afraid to wear weird makeup colours. I am no stranger to what I like to call the "side-eye." I rarely even notice if people are looking at me funny anymore because I am so used to it (and I find that the older you get, the less f*cks you give). My daywear at this point in my life consists of a lot of mainstream clothing and is drastically toned-down compared to what I used to wear when I was younger. Despite this, where I live if you are wearing anything beyond jeans and a t-shirt or yoga pants and UGGS people will give you the side-eye. For all of the times that I have worn navy-blue lipstick in public I never get as much side-eye as when I wear this particular jacket. It is just WEIRD. It is hardly the most side-eye-inducing item of clothing that I own and yet I always get these looks like, "WTF IS WITH THIS GIRL IN THE BRIGHT RED JACKET?? I AM AFRAID!! BACK AWAY!" Maybe it just looks really bad on me and I just don't know it? I am not sure but it just seems odd.

ACCESSORIES

Sally Hansen Salon Gel Polish in Red My Lips, Kat Von D Underage Red lipstick.
I wore this out for a dinner with friends. I decided to match my lips and nails to my coat. I finally got to wear the cool necklace that my husband got for me a long time ago.....I just couldn't find the right thing to wear it with for the longest time!

Worksafe Monday

Hello everyone! Sorry for all of the very late blog comments that I have been leaving, I was on holidays recently. They were definitely needed; my job is truly beginning to drive me insane. I have been trying to have a positive attitude but things just keep getting worse and worse. My plan previously was to try and stick it out but I am now working on my resume and even beginning to ponder going back to school. The job market in my field really sucks right now but at least I am finally forcing myself to try and build some momentum so I can make some changes in my life up in here.

Anyway, today's work outfit is one that I actually kind of like. Most of the things I wear to work would not be things that I would normally pick out but I use both the necklace and the blazer in my non-work wardrobe as well.  I know this trend is pretty much over with but I just LOVE druzy/mineral/crystal jewellery; it reminds me of the little collection of polished rocks and crystals and stuff I had when I was a kid. This blazer is a favourite of mine as it is brocade print and has crazy chain shoulder pad things.

THE OUTFIT

Dress: Le Chateau
Blazer: Zara
Tights: Some neat grey tights with a fishnet print on them, found them in a drawer.
Boots: Really ugly boots that I don't care for but are comfortable enough for me to stand in all day.

Today is a day off for me, woo hoo! My plans for today are to work out, shovel the driveway, catch up on blogs, do some blog photos, work on the resume, find a recipe to cook for supper, and do some reading. Nothing too exciting, but hey, it's Monday, how exciting can it get?

How's your Monday going?
