Darkling Tag

Time to play tag!

I was tagged by Ra.....I am always in awe of her unique personal style and gorgeous photographs. The questions were provided by Graveyard Kittens.

Simple Questions
What is your favorite candle scent?
I DO NOT BURN CANDLES. I am terrified that I would forget to blow one out and burn down my house!

Do you have a favorite book?
I have a lot of favourite books but if I must pick one I'll pick Mindhunter by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

Are you a tea or coffee person?

Coffee in the morning, decaf herbal tea at night (I'm getting old, I can't handle caffeine in the evenings anymore lol)

What's your favourite perfume/cologne?
It varies. Right now it's Orange Sanguine by Atelier Cologne.

Do you have a celebrity crush?

I don't eyeball celebrities that much....except for Alexander Skarsgård.

If you could change your name to a stereotypical 90s/2000s gothy name, what it would be?

Did people actually do this??? I missed out! Scarlet Wynter.

What are your top three tips for surviving hot weather while black clad?

1) Do not attend any irritating summer outdoor festival type things.
2) Avoid patios.
3) If you must go out wear drapey, flowy clothing with ventilation.

What song will always make you happy (doesn’t have to be a goth band)?
"Until the End of the World" by Apoptygma Berzerk. It is my favourite club dancing song and even though it sounds upbeat, it is actually a very sad song. Watch the video for some super 2002 fashionz.

Are you active in the arts (ex. play an instrument, paint, write, etc)?
Uh, I write really sh*ttily on this blog.....I used to play the piano and the flute, like, 16 years ago......yeah. I am not artsy at all, I sew begrudgingly when I have to but suck at it and I sometimes craft accessories when I have time. I guess I have taken up silversmithing recently........

What is your number one non-gothy hobby?

Thought Provokers

If you could be a supernatural creature, what would it be and why?
Can I be like a mermaid or a fairy or something? It would be fun to fly and swim around and be sparkly and pretty.

What horror monster super-powers would you have?

Immortality so I can see how the world finally ends one day.

Do you feel confident or comfortable interacting with other goths or gothy people (online or irl)? Why or why not?
Yes, I find that the goths are a pretty accepting group of people for the most part.

Which is more important for a look: great hair or great makeup?
MAKEUP. For me, anyways. My hair always sucks, I am not really a hair person but my makeup must be done!!!

Is there something you wish there was more of in your subculture?
Not really.

Care to share an embarassing story related to your "darkliness"?

Back in approximately 2004, my best friend and I went to Toronto to see Nine Inch Nails. We were wearing some form of dark clothing and boots. We were going into a Subway to get some lunch when an older couple came up behind us. Being polite young ladies, we held the door for them and let them go in ahead of us. Upon entering the restaurant, the woman turns to her husband and yells, "WHY DID YOU LET THOSE HOOKERS HOLD THE DOOR FOR US??!?!?"  WELL SORRY FOR BEING POLITE!!!! I actually wasn't that embarrassed (I thought it was funny as hell) but if one had enough shame to dress properly in public, one might find such a thing to be embarrassing.

How are you at DIY?
Sh*tty. There is always much swearing, weeping, and gnashing of teeth when I try to make anything.

Confessional (aka True or False)

I love watching cheesy romance films.

I always remember to wash off my makeup at night.
F**K YES my skin is bad enough already

I sleep with plushies.
I sleep with a 15 pound cat, does that count?

I wear non-black pyjamas most nights.

Yes, I always pick out the ugliest P.J. pants that I can find and wear them with ratty old t-shirts. I am not very glamourous when it comes to sleepwear.

I think Andrew Eldritch is overrated.
I am indifferent towards Andrew Eldritch.

I don’t like vampires.

True but I'll make an exception for this one:

God, this was the stupidest show ever.
I don’t like clubs.
FALSE. They are the one place that I can dress like a complete ass and get away with it!

I don’t enjoy graveyards.

Depends why I'm there, I guess....

I'd sooner faint than pet a spider.

I don’t like haunted houses.
TRUE!!!! Being stuck in a dark, claustrophobic area with a bunch of people I don't know in my personal space = TERRIFYING!!

I’ve never read Dracula.

I think “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” is a long and boring song.
Kind of but it's a classic.

I shall tag 2 ladies with sewing prowess...........Mindless Indulgence and Madame Mari Mortem.

Antique Gold and Brass

Today's post features a summer clubbing outfit with gold and brass accents. In the past, I only wore silver-toned jewellery but in the last couple of years I have added different metal accessories to my wardrobe to change things up.

Earrings: From an "alternative craft fair", Collar: Studio Valyr.
Studio Valyr is a store I found on Etsy that makes unique leather accessories. Look at the beautiful detail on this piece!

I love how braided hairstyles have been trendy (according to fashion magazines, anyway) for the last few years. I LOATHE wearing my hair down and enjoy styles that keep it well controlled.......it's always nice when you can look like you're up with the times.

Skirt: Plastik Wrap

Casual Friday: Band-T

I am starting to feel that chill in the air that signals the end of summer. Unfortunately, it's not over YET, we have still had some scorching hot days. One of the well-ventilated tops in my summer wardrobe is a band shirt from an old favourite, A.F.I. I haven't worn band t-shirts or listened to A.F.I for YEARS but I picked up their Blood Album recently and unexpectedly loved it. They kind of lost me there with Crash Love and Burials so I am excited to be listening to them again! Casual t-shirts aren't usually my thing but when it's hot out, I don't care how casual I look.

Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Venom.

Some things never change.

Are you a fan of the band t-shirt? How do you style them?

Ah, summer......it is a time of great, suffocating heat and limited fashion choices. While I usually like to wear mostly black, in the summer I sometimes take the opportunity to throw on as many colours as I possibly can at the same time. I've got to keep my restless mind amused one way or another...... I have recently taken a shining to so-called "muscle tanks" for the summer. I do not have any toned musculature to show off by any means but these tops DO provide great ventilation in the heat of summer. They are also fun to style with bralettes/sports bras, etc. I wore this outfit to go out for lunch with a friend.

Necklace: Bought from a local shop where I used to live approximately 15 years ago.
My summer fragrances of choice have been some Atelier Cologne samples.....Mandarine Glacial, Orange Sanguine, and Sud Magnolia. I love the smell of citrus!

Top: Zolnar

This summer, it has been a bit cooler out than normal (thank god). My potted flowers were quite happy about this!

How's your summer going?

Summer Music Festival

Every summer, if I can get the time off work, I like to attend a certain music festival that is conveniently located a couple of hours away from where I live. I recently attended said festival so I thought it was high time I posted my photos from LAST YEAR.
(All band photos were taken by my husband.....if you think my fashion phtography skills are poor, you should see my concert photos......)

Dress: Zoetica Ebb, Necklace and Earrings: DeUno (Etsy)

Voicecoil - SO GOOD

Note the hot dog suit in the background

The Horrorist......not something I ever thought I would see live. It was truly something.

Agent Side Grinder.......all the way from Sweden

Hate Dept.

Cold Cave

Dress: Futurstate Clothing, Shoes: Yes

Left Spine Down

Venetian Snares.....look at those fancy modular synthesizers!

I have nothing but good things to say about this festival, they always book big names and I always find some new bands to listen to. If you live in the area, you should go if you can!
