Haulin' Wood

This past fall, I was rather irritated with my husband as he had been going on and on about building a shed in the back yard. I must say that I couldn't muster a single f*** to give about whether or not there was a shed in the back yard; however, I got dragged into helping him haul wood from the home improvement store and he made me pick out the paint colours for it as well. On the day in which I was required to help him, he was not impressed to see me wearing a dress and lipstick; I was wearing FLAT BOOTS for goodness sake and I even had my WOOD earrings on, what more did he want from me!?!? If I am going somewhere other than work, I like to take advantage of the opportunity to make an outfit! I still hauled the damned wood, lipstick and all.

THE EQUIPMENT

Wood and steel earrings from Atrium Creation.
THE OUTFIT

Dress: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target from 2013 that I found in the depths of the closet
Boots: Fluevog
I should have put on my work gloves to really complete the look.

These boots are my second pair of Fluevogs......my friend actually gave them to me because she was getting rid of some things they hurt her feet. They also hurt my feet the first several times I wore them, they took awhile to break in but are a good pair of boots to have for when I need to wear flat shoes.

Blue Boots

When I can't decide what to wear, my go-to outfit is all-black with statement shoes/accessories. For today's outfit, cobalt blue shoes are my statement piece. Every time I wear these shoes, I get a fair bit of side-eye so they must be doing their job of making a statement, what statement that is, I don't know. Perhaps "I'm not entirely all there" and "I don't know how to dress myself" are the vibes I'm giving off when I should be projecting "I'm 30-something years old and I have my sh*t together." Hmm. I really enjoy wearing this distressed sweater dress, it has a sort of goth athleisure feel to it. I have also got my vitnage leather jacket out again, this time paired with a lovely linen scarf from Nuit clothing.

Resurrection of the Vintage Leather Jacket

It has been a weird winter this year; there have been major temperature swings from unseasonably warm to weather-warning cold. When it gets to be -30°C or below, it is essentially an outfit vacuum for me as no one is going to see what you are wearing under your winter jacket anyway. The unseasonably warm weather worked out well as I have been DYING to resurrect an old leather coat that I have had since about 2004. I bought it from a vintage store while I was in university.......I had eyeballed it for about a year before deciding to finally buy it. At the time, I didn't have much of a clothing budget so it was a bit of a splurge for me.
I used to wear the coat whilst riding on the back of a motorcycle but I hadn't used it for several years as it became too small for me to zip up comfortably at some point. I have always loved it so I kept it and I have finally figured out how to style it again. In mild winter weather, it is warm enough to wear open over a sweater or with a blanket scarf. For this outfit, I wore all black items with different materials/textures for interest. I added some fishnets to be trendy and some silver jewellery to finish off the outfit.

THE EQUIPMENT

Chain, ring, and earrings made by me in silversmithing class.

THE OUTFIT

Sweater: Complex Geometries
Velvet Skirt: Vintage 90's
Leather Jacket: Vintage
Shoes: Fluevog

I am glad I kept this jacket, you will see it on the blog many more times this winter!
Have you had any good clothing resurrections lately?

My First Fluevogs

I have often admired Fluevog shoes on the feet of other bloggers. The brand produces a variety of unique shoes that really make a statement. Being a huge shoe lover, I have always wanted to own a pair; however, since I had never actually tried any on, I was hesitant to order online. Also, a lot of the shoes, while unique and beautiful, do not really complement my style. Recently, a Fluevog store opened in my city so I went to check it out. An all black pair caught my eye and I ended up getting them when they were on sale. They are made of a really neat material with a great geometric design. I love the heel and toe shapes and they are comfortable enough to wear during the day to walk around in. Being that they are all black, they are easy to pair with various outfits.

Fluevog "The Jitters" - the soles have a print that says "Iron out your Isshoes" lol.

Some "pro-tips" about Fluevogs:

1) They are expensive but they have sales often. I personally wouldn't buy them unless they are on sale. If you get them on sale, I would say they are worth the price as they are made of nice materials; I have worn mine a lot (walked around all day, not just going out for the evening) and they are holding up really well.

2) The sizes run small. I never have problems ordering shoes online as 99% of the time, I am the same size across brands. I need a full size up in Fluevogs so I'm glad I tried them on in store!

3) If you are interested in boots, many styles are small in the calf region. I have since acquired two pairs of boots and they just barely fit me in this area. I am not particularly petite but I have never had trouble with boots fitting my calves with any other brand.

Does anyone else wear Fluevogs? What do you think of them?
