He Said/She Said: Red and Purple Eyeshadow

A tip from the Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual: "Avoid eye shadows with red and purple undertones if you have redness around the eyes, as these colours will make your eyes look tired. Stick with neutral, brown, or gray colours, but beware that some browns and grays have so much red in them that they should not be used."

From the introduction to Kevyn Aucoin's Making Faces: "First of all, let me say that I believe there are no rules when it comes to makeup....Experts seem to be popping up everywhere with strict dictates and "philosophies" that frighten people into thinking there is only one way to wear (and do) makeup that is "acceptable" and "normal" (two words I hate!) "Never wear black lipstick," "Makeup should never take more than five minutes," and "Never touch up your makeup in public" are just a few of the oppressive and, frankly, ridiculous "words of wisdom" frequently handed down by these self-appointed cosmetic police. In a world of constant change, with ethnicities blending together, I feel the goal should be to expand our definition of what we consider "acceptable," "normal" and "beautiful." The future will belong to those with open minds and open hearts, who can appreciate beauty in all its forms."

What makeup philosophy do YOU live by?

Face: MAC Prep and Prime, MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15, MAC Select Sheer pressed powder in NC15.

Cheeks: Nars blush in good old Orgasm was applied to the hollows of the cheeks.

Brows: The Annabelle Medium Brown pencil was used.

Eyes: UDPP and MAC paint pot in Soft Ochre were used to prepare the lids. Remember MAC's Red She Said collection from 2008? Two of the mineralize eyshadow trios were used. Interestingly, when reading other makeup blogs, I have noted that many people HATE MAC's mineralize eyeshadows and find them difficult to work with. Personally, I LOVE THEM!!! The red shade from Danger Zone (the red and black trio) was applied to the inner corner and inner lid. The burgundy shade from Outspoken (the burgundy and purple trio) was blended from the red into the middle of the lid. The black shade from Danger Zone was blended outward into the outer V. On the lower outer lash, a thick line of the purple shade from outspoken was applied. Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero was used on the waterline and Maybelline liquid eyeliner in black was used on the upper lashline. Geisha Ink liquid liner pen was also used thinly on the lower lashline. Maybelline The Falsies mascara in black was used on upper lashes and Medusa's Makeup mascara in Majestic was used on the lower lashes.

Lips: Viva Glam Cyndi was applied all by itself to the lips.

The earrings and necklace were constructed by yours truly.

I look super "special" in this picture. Do you think I need a few more chains?

I look like I was not ready for this picture. How could I not be ready when it was ME who was taking the f#$%ing picture???
